GIMP Version: 2.8.4
Operating System: Windows
GIMP Experience: Beginner Level

List any relevant plug-ins or scripts:
Synthesizer

Hi,

I have GIMP 2.8.2 for Windows XP Pro on my desktop PC. I downloaded the Synthesizer scripts and for a day or 2 that Heal Selection under Filters, Enhance, Heal Selection worked and then it never showed up as an option in the drop-down menu when I access Filters, Enhance with a jpg file open in GIMP.

Is there any GIMP version with Heal Selection built in as a feature?

If not, I'm not sure why Heal Selection has disappeared.

Your thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Welcome to the forum.

Not sure why it would have disappeared.

I recently discovered "Inpainting", on G'MIC. It works great. Here's an example of what I was able to do with it. Removed the Sears Tower: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=6817&start=20#p127947

Are the other Synthesizer plugins still there look for Filters/Enhance/'Heal Transparency',
or Filters/Enhance/'Enlarge and Sharpen'

This is very odd. I loaded GIMP 2.8.10 on my other Windows XP Pro PC and Heal Selection is back and worked. Heal Transparency is greyed out so it can't be used although it is listed in the drop down menu.

Enlarge and sharpen is listed and is in black lettering.

Is there any GIMP version where Heal Transparency is a built in feature?

Or must one always download and install the Synthesizer scripts?

Is there a GIMP version which works better than others with the Synthesizer scripts?

Which site do you feel is the safest/most reliable to download the Synthesizer scripts?

Thank you so much.

Heal Transparency only work on a layer with an Alpha channel.

Yes, right click on your layer in the dialogue and click add alpha channel.

Global Moderator - Thank you. Will the Synthesizer scripts work with any GIMP version? Or only version 2.8.2 through 2.8.20?

Molly - I clicked the Layer tab on the toolbar and then clicked Transparency and then chose Add Alpha Channel and then re-visited those steps and now Add Alpha Channel is greyed out. Does that mean it's been added? If so what does Transparency do exactly?

Thank you both so very much!

I can't answer that but I had it in gimp-2.6 and all through the 2.8 versions up to 2.8.10 and it works. I use Fedora so mine is a different install.

Yes that means you have added an alpha channel. and it means that the layers are transparent. If you went back and clicked remove alpha channel, then it wouldn't be transparent anymore.
