very cool, It doesn't work for me in the editor, libreoffice or Gimp, so I guess it just doesn't like me.

Yes Molly, why it works in PS and not Gimp is strange.
So what do all the other fonts that work in Gimp have that this font doesn't, or what does this font have that makes it not function as it should within Gimp?

i have no answers, just more mystery. i downloaded the font (from two different sites, to see if they might have different versions of it) and tried it in gimp - and for me it doesn't even show up in the fonts list. i see it in the folder, so it's definitely there, but i can't find it in gimp. didn't matter what site i downloaded from either.

I checked viking_younger_runes in FontForge and got many errors.

Wallace in Windows you can use, Microsoft Font Validator.
For general info the rest of Microsoft Typography is worth a look as well.

Thanks Odin, I'm not surprised.

Yeah, I hear you.
I can use the font in PS so if I want something with this font I'll use PS, save as .png and "boom" end of story.
Still, I'd like to find out exactly why it doesn't work in Gimp.

Doesn't work in Inkscape and Krita either.

Loaded in Fontforge and reexported it under a new name. FF complains that the font contains errors ("self-intersecting"). However it saves the font and the resulting font works with Gimp:

@ofnuts I opened the Viking font in fontforge and I clicked the font and then clicked OK, then when the box comes up with all the fonts I clicked File > saveas, then put molly in the front of the font name. Now I don't know where it saved, it doesn't ask where you want it to go. HELP.... where do I find it. This is the box below where I saved it

The "find" command is your friend :). But like in Gimp, "save" seems to export a fontforge "project" (.SFD), there is a "File/export" (or is it "File/Generate font"?) to create the usable font file (TTF, OTF or else). I'm no FF expert, I used it tonight for the first time...

Ok, thanks, I will go on the hunt. When you saved yours, where did it go?

This seems more trouble then it's worth. Nonetheless, this is the first and only font I've ever encountered that gave me this sort of issue.
I wash my hands of this font. :(
