Very nice molly! I like the combination of the silver with the glitter pattern.

Thanks Dalia I will read your tute tomorrow so I will know how you did the gold separate from the mother of pearl part. I sort of got burned out on long tutes so I will start up again. This one is very nice. and well written.

molly, I'll iterate, I'm not a tutorial writer and you may find my tut to be crazy once you read it. As I've said before, I'm humbled, especially because the comment came from you.

I love your background Tony, it reminds me of the way they used to Roxotone cars with the feint gold dust in with the paint.

@Dalia, or (anyone) I have been trying to do this tutorial from scratch and I can't make it do the same things. My dialogues are completely different.
Mine are under Script-Fu > Layer Effects. They don't have any of the options that show in yours. Yours seem to be under Layers tab. I don't have any there.
I cant make it stroke the outline with a gradient. I must be doing something wrong cuz mine fills in the whole text instead of just the outline.  :gaah :gaah

Image

EDIT:
Never mind, I found the problem and I am leaving this post here for others that might have the Script-Fu instead of the Python-Fu installed. (This tutorial calls for (Python-Fu).
One is found under Layers and the other one under Script-Fu.

Voilà! Yes, it was listed under "materials" needed. By the way molly, I love your second rendition; it looks amazing with that background.

tonysteele, aside from the fact that you did beautifully on yours, your name just lends itself to the tutorial. Perfect.

Okay, I finally finished this tute and it is great but I get very confused with all the layer groups and half I time I click the wrong one to run the filters on. I don't know if I should be clicking on the original layers or one that a filters has already run on.
Anyway this is the best I can do with Python layer effects.

Carlos right on with that and the background is great. It inspires, for me anyway, medieval times. Nice job.

molly what can I say, beautiful outcome as well. I really like how you applied the texture/rustic appearance to your background.

Creativity well done. Thank you all for trying the tutorial.

Nice work Molly! :jumpclap
I'd like to see that same effect you created with other fonts. Maybe you could show us how you did it?

Those look great Molly! :bigthup
I favor the "normal" mode one most, but there both really good.
This tut isn't for bringers, that's for sure. It's also good practice for our advanced users too.
