GIMP Version: 2.8.14.1
Operating System: Linux
GIMP Experience: Basic Level

Every time I open Gimp, the foreground color is Burgundy and the background white. I change it to the default black and white then save on exit through preferences. When I open gimp again, it still goes back to the burgundy.
Can some one tell me how to keep this as the black and white default, thank you in advance. :gaah

Are you sure your "save on exit" works? This also saves the active tool IIRC, so i's easy to check by selecting some tool before exiting, and seeing if it becomes the active tool when you restart.

Otherwise you can also click the "Save options now".

If you have a tablet, check the "Device status" dialog, the color could be associated to some pointing device.

In this forum, "tablet" usually means "graphics tablet": Bamboo, Intuos, etc...

yes I do have a bamboo. I will check it out if I can find it. When I was on windows it went to add and remove folder and I could find the info there.
With Linux, it all installed automatically so I can't find where the dialogue is in Search, nothing came up under Bamboo tablet.

This is all I could find. I don't understand what to do with it. So, how do I fix it to go back to the default black and white. It is showing the red foreground that I can't get rid of.

Try resetting all of your tool options to the factory defaults.

I would have a look at the input device options

Image

My default from "tool options" (I never have save-on-exit enabled there) is B & W but with my old wacom plugged in, as soon as the pen goes on the pad the FG color changes to red.

Which is what it was last saved as.

Now how to change it back? Untick 'Save on exit' and 'Reset..' works here.

I didn't have the untick 'save on exit' checked, I checked it, closed, then opened gimp and it stayed on the default black and white. Thank you Rich.

Thanks Sallyanne, leave it to me huh? I said it before, many times, you could spend your whole life learning Gimp because it keeps on growing and when you use a script, it is hard to remember what they all do, there are so many.
Anyway, I keep it interesting... :teeth
