I have the tactile theme installed in the correct folder for gimp 2.8.14. When gimp is open and I go to preferences menu for themes it doesn't show up all. I've uninstalled gimp and reinstalled gimp still doesn't show in the themes. See pictures I've attached. I'm using windows 8.1. Please help me get the tactile theme to show up in the themes. Thank u very much in advance for the help.

Your path for installed theme and the path in Preferences are different. Compare
1.C:\Program Files\Gimp2\share\gimp\2.0\themes\ and
2.C:\Program Files\Gimp2\share\themes\

You need to add path (2) in gimp Preferences>Folders>themes or copy your theme to the gimp location
for the default themes (1) .

You should always install new GIMP resources such as scripts, gradients, brushes, plug-ins and themes in the user/.gimp-2.xx sub folders or you risk losing them on a new version install. This is why the user resource folders are provided. They are not removed on un install of GIMP. This also will normally allow for the new resources to function at restart of GIMP as the sub folders are already set up in GIMP Edit>Preferences>Folders for auto search and run or execute at GIMP start up.

That is what I was trying to explain Rod. If you place anything in Gimp on the Program folder you are bound to loose everything if you uninstall your Gimp. That is why is better like you said :bigthup to install your stuff in user/.gimp-2.xx sub folders.

Actually if you install GIMP and it creates an "un-install" script, on un-install it will only remove what it installed and everything else will be left. This is why sometimes when you remove GIMP the program folder GIMP-2 will remain.
