The best text editor to use is Notepad ++ in Windows, but regular ole Notepad should work.

Just don't save it under txt format.

.gmic

NO extensions and not in TXT format, I believe you only have two file type options. (Depending on what you are using).

Well I opened it in Notepad++ and I just save it as .gmic? That made it a text file...

Wait no it didn't testing now
That is what regular Notepad did

Last question, where do I find this Script now?

Edit i wrote before all the replies...so "before" is not more actual

before reply that you can't save a file with a name starting with a dot get notepad++
http://notepad-plus-plus.org/download

just lauch it chose to create a new file paste the code there and save as .gmic...again .gmic is the file name not a extension so would be not stained_glass.gmic but simply .gmic and don't forgot the dot or will not work

the # are not relevant are just there as separators

you will found somewhere on the top (where are the fav )

Just to clarify what PC just said about faves:

Faves are indented on top of the filters in G'MIC, see my screenshot:

Sorry for that oversight Willy; completely forgot that .gmic is not there by default (now you know why I hate doing tuts; lol). I use to have to be a details guy, but I've gotten lazy over the years now that I'm no longer required to be one unfortunately. .gmic is a text file without the .txt extension. If you have the setting to not see known extentions, then uncheck that, then all you have to do is rename .gmic.txt to just .gmic or, like Mahvin already pointed out, just save it under the any file option (instead of txt) and give it the .gmic extension and all is well. :)

I had the same oversight, Lyle. We get so ingrained to these things, we start thinking they are just there, automatically. I even had this moment on the tutorial, until I finally realized I had to make the file, 15 comments later.

Willy make sure also when you save your PRESETS (not filters) in the file .gmic_faves that they do not have any white spaces.
For instance

Preset here
Preset here
right underneath each other.
You will find quite a few of them on-site to add to your faves file. :)

Keep an eye out for new ones as PC adds them constantly. You probably will not find them anywhere else other than Flickr. Were kinda spoiled around here.Must be the rain dances. :lol

Enjoy your new toys!
