this was originally not weird, then i got a song in my head (tried to find it on youtube but couldn't, it's holy modal rounders' version of michael hurley's "tea song" - his original is good, but their take is whackier) and it ended up a bit psychedelic and rather whacky. there's tea in it though!

Looks like a bit too much lemon in the tea made you see colors! :lol
It looks pretty seamless, only thing that looks a little odd to me is the eyes on the face seem like you used a not so happy face and the optimistic colors don't seem to fit with it...imo anyway.

Definitely has that late 60s/early 70s feel AnMal; I do like it since I'm particularly fond of Paisleys. :)

Love the pattern of the piece, it has a calming effect like drinking a cup of tea.

again, it takes me a while to get down to thank you for commenting - it's not bad manners, just slowness!
trandoductin: i agree, the pattern is great and the displacement map worked great on it.
dinasset: a COFFEE song?! are you using bad language in my thread?! :hehe
odinbc: yes, that's the time period and that's the style :)! hope you gave you the right kind of flashbacks.
moko: hehe, it wasn't the lemon, it was the honey! must stay away from that stuff in the future, our sofa still looks pink. oh, wait, that's because it IS pink....
about the sad face: it's deliberate. i was aiming for a special style - zoom in on that cream cover odin posted and take a look at their eyes and you'll see what i mean. i think the combination of cheery colours and patterns and elements of sadness or pain on those old record covers have a powerful effect.
lyle: yes, there's never enough paisleys, is there? :)
doodle dorp1: oooh, someone who understands tea and patterns! i agree with you, only for me the pattern has a cheering effect, like a cup of tea.

Anmal,
you may try to paint the song of Pino Daniele - 'Na tazzulella 'e caffè
you will gain a lot of fans in the South Europe (not to say about new-Swedish guys...)

dinasset: oh dear, that napoli dialect is far too difficult for me to understand! if you could send me the lyrics in "ordinary" italian i could make some sense of them (capisco un po' d'italiano, ma non lo posso parlare o scrivere), and then i'd know how to gimp it. would be nice to have fans in southern europe and even nicer to have erisian eating out of my hand...

neither me understand "dialetto napoletano"
you may look at http://www.napoligrafia.it/musica/testi ... laCafe.htm

from there I took the following translation into Italian

Una tazzina di caffè
e mai niente ci fanno sapere.
Noi moriamo di fame,
lo sanno tutti
e, invece di aiutarci,
ci riempiono di caffè.

Una tazzina di caffè,
seguita da una sigaretta per non vedere
che sono pieni di sbagli,
fanno solo imbrogli,
si pettinano, si picchiano,
si prendono il caffè.

E noi passiamo i guai,
non possiamo sopportare.
E questi, invece di dare una mano,
si pettinano, si picchiano,
si mangiano la città.

E noi passiamo i guai,
non possiamo sopportare.
E questi, invece di dare una mano,
si pettinano, si picchiano,
si mangiano la città.

Una tazzina di caffè,
aggiusta la bocca a chi non vuol sapere.
E noi tiriamo avanti,
con i dolori di pancia
e invece di aiutarci
ci riempiono di caffè.

Una tazzina di caffè,
seguita da una sigaretta per non vedere.
Si costruiscono palazzi,
fanno cose da pazzi,
ci girano, ci rivoltano,
ci riempiono di tasse.

E noi passiamo i guai,
non possiamo sopportare.
E questi, invece di dare una mano,
si pettinano, si picchiano,
si mangiano la città.

E noi passiamo i guai,
non possiamo sopportare.
E questi, invece di dare una mano,
si pettinano, si picchiano,
si mangiano la città.

Anmal - very nice; my favourite part is the mad hatter elf; there was a similar 'character' in on of my Griatch random art prompt posts. Like others I also get reminded of some 60s album covers ... shows a lot of us must be getting old!
