No Windows compile for 2.8.18 yet (downloaded over 75 MBytes just to realize it was still 2.8.16. lol

I received the 2.8.18 update yesterday. Can't see any changes yet. Have started playing with 2.9.4 using the Windows version thru Wine. The best thing about it is Symmetry painting. The worst thing is the style redesign. Everything looks foreign.

Went to the site, clicked the link for 2.8.18, but says file not there. Weird (yes; tried 2 different OSs and 3 browsers).

What is the difference between the two? is one better than the other? Is one release for Mac and the other is for Windows?

Mackenzieh, 2.9.4 is a development version so may not be stable. It's a work in progress. It may be more crash prone. When it's considered stable it will become the new Gimp.

GIMP 2.8.18 is a security bug fix release, worth upgrading from 2.8.16 for that reason alone, basic features are the same. As mentioned, 2.9.x is for development only.

How do I know if the 2:8:18 is for 32 or 64 bit? It doesn't say?!
EDIT: Went to the gimp.org site and it answered my question there.

When I install GIMP it installs to the Program Files x86 folder which is for 32 bit programs. If it's 64 bit it should go in the Program Files folder not the Program Files x86 folder. Is there a way to tell which version you have once installed? I have an old version of GIMP for running old scripts if that makes any difference.

If you have a 64-bit OS, it should install as a 64-bit version unless your older version from which you are updating from was already 32-bit (believe that's how the installer will work).

It does an uninstallation of all old versions before installing so...that really shouldn't make a difference, should it? Of course that's just common sense thinking! :mrgreen:

Maybe it leaves a trace of the old program...hmm
