I am not at all new to GIMP, as I've been using it since early 2014. I need to export as a PSD file often but can't ever afford Photoshop. I need to be able to export with groups. Are there any plugins I can use?

It seems that we have the same OS and Gimp version. Have you tried to open the PSD file? Gimp is able to open many of the PSD files. You open it like any other file in GIMP. You must save it with another name and make it an xcf if you want the original PSD file intact as a PSD file. Save it as an .xcf so you can continue to edit. Remember it cannot be changed back to PSD once you have made it a Gimp file. You would need a special Converter file to do that if possible.

No I don't need help OPENING. It's only EXPORTING I need to do. Converters just flaten it to a single layer.

If you want a true PSD file with all the features you have to use Photoshop. AFAIK the PSD support in standard Gimp is the "best" there is.
