I have Gimp-2.10 Portable on a USB stick. It works fine.
Now I downloaded, on another stick, the Gimp-2.10.8 Portable version from Diego's link.



Everything is OK. The only thing is I can't get the path shape creator to work.
No problem in 2.10 but in 2.10.8 it doesn't show up after installing the plug inns in the preference folder.

Does anyone know whether or not any of the portable Win versions of 2.10.8 contain the LiquidRescale plugin? Thanks.

since I use Gimp (portable), I always downloaded from the SAMJ site but it is no longer updated!

Samj's portable -which I pointed to- is ONLY for 64bits, that's the reason why Samj did not create a specific entry (the 32bits 2.10.8 has too many bugs, it seems)

At post #19 (reported also at post #21) I pointed to SAMJ's package. It's the one I PERSONALLY use every day.

To update the portable version, I replace the file GIMP_FR.exe with the new one but are there other things to replace, for example G'Mic?

No, portable packs are self-contained; you have to download, unzip and place the whole unzipped folder to your desktop (or wherever you put all your portable packs), so you will have a complete additional package, inside which you look for your ...exe and launch it: it will show up without any additional resources; then copy the additional resources you had in your previous portable pack (each pack should be self-contained and thus autonomous…)

PS: only for the additional plug-ins you may just copy the links to your personal plug-ins folder(s) in Edit/Preferences, once you have Gimp active, then close-restart

2.10.9 means it's experimental as apposed to 2.10.8 stable version.

so I will keep both versions on the PC

First time updating Gimp...

Do I install directly over top of 2.10.6 or do I have to uninstall my old version first?...

No one can answer that question without knowing.....

I was told that I can't update within Gimp & that I would have to get the 189 MB download (gimp-2.10.8-setup.exe)...

A google search didn't give me any info on how to go about updating Gimp, so I thought I'd better check here first...

Hi FlutteringBy. I have Windows 10 and the way I do it is, I uninstall the old version first. When you uninstall Gimp, the only thing that will uninstall will be program on you C drive Gimp 2. The directory on you personal Gimp folder your PC: C:\Users\Pocholo\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10 will stay. DO NOT DELETE THIS FOLDER. You need this folder because you don't want to loose your preferences, (brushes, gradients, patterns, plugins, scripts...etc. Once you Install a new version, this new version will take over your Preferences and you will have everything you place in your preferences.

Like Racer X said this is a Beta or Experimental version. All the Gimp versions ending on an odd number are all experimental. I always wait for the Stable version to be out, then I upgrade.

I installed it on my Ubuntu linux PC and it installed on the root directory. #BooHissBoo.

Ok. I found my profile which I have copy/paste access to and something strange. It was installed as a SNAP package even though @gimpofficial on FB says GIMP does not use SNAP.

The program seems to be installed at the root level:
/user/share/gimp/2.0/ - you need root privilege for making changes here.

When you look in the Gimp program preferences under "files" you will see a different directory structure defined:
/snap/gimp/94/usr/lib/gimp/2.0/

My profile (This is where you can personalize your GIMP) is defined as: 
/home/my_name/snap/gimp/94/.config/GIMP/2.10/

I mostly need an old script that may not even work on this version: "AdamsDivideScannedImages.scm" which allowed me to break up a scan of multiple photos into individual files and straightening them at the same time. This is an emulation of a very useful PhotoShop tool. I copied my old script which works but the "deskew" portion of it does not.
