in the "Readme" file of my gimp samj:
G'MIC-QT-GIMP (32 and 64 bit) version 2.4.2-pre compiled on November 14, 2018 (so not 2.5)
so should I do what you indicate?
It really depends on if you want some of the extra filters that come with gmic_gimp 2.5 for example that Stylize filter Some details here:
https://discuss.pixls.us/t/release-of-gmic-2-5/9413It might be that the version you are using is more than enough for your requirements. Out of the 500-something filters I use maybe 3 or 4

Is it possible to save faves so you do not have to put them back 1 by 1?
In Gimp-2.10.8_Port \ GMIC_Filters \ gmic, there is a file "gmic_qt_faves.json". So maybe copy it and paste it into the new G'MIC?
You can do that, It is a text file that holds the settings. Depending on the filter some might not work because the menu structure is changed.
For example: This is samj and an old gmic with two faves. Bokeh and PictureFX. The PictureFX filters are in the Film emulation section.
Moving the gmic_qt_faves.json file into the gimp_gmic 2.5.2 location. The Bokeh will work but the fave PictureFX throws up an error because the Film emulation section has been consolidated into other sections.
