I think it's worth the wait a bit longer - the update has removed Python's support for Gimp and there is no version yet.
The update also removed all *py files from the Gimp folders as well as pygimp.env and pygimp.interp.
Fortunately, I had a backup - but such removal is a very strange operation.
ps. Attempting to install (sudo apt install) Python 2.7 in Focal Fossa gives a message:
DEPRECATION: Python 2.7 will reach the end of its life on January 1st, 2020. Please upgrade your Python as Python 2.7 won't be maintained after that date. A future version of pip will drop support for Python 2.7. More details about Python 2 support in pip, can be found at https://pip.pypa.io/en/latest/dSo all that is left is to use Gimp-appimage with Python.
I need to try the latest version:
GIMP_AppImage-git-2.10.19-20200416-withplugins-x86_64.AppImage
