Hello there,

Just a few words to say I've finally released the final 1.5.0.2 stable version of the G'MIC framework (including the plug-in for GIMP, of course). You can find the updated plug-in binaries at the usual location : http://gmic.sourceforge.net/gimp.shtml

There have been quite a lot of 'internal' improvements, even if only few new filters have actually appeared. Two of my favorites are those who can generate and solve mazes. Here is one example of what I get by using G'MIC, from a totally empty image. Several G'MIC-only filters have been applied to get this result.

Image

I find it nice (from a developer point of view, I'm definitely not an artist :hehe ). I hope Lyle that you are now convinced we can generate mazes with G'MIC :yes

So, do not hesitate to update your plug-in version (if you are already a G'MIC user), or to try this plug-in (if you don't know it). I've worked hard to make it the more stable I could.

Cheers,

David.

PS : I'm sorry to be quite silent in this forum these days(months!), but I've been quite busy with the developement of G'MIC and with my research work at the lab.

Just got back from the road trip David. Very cool indeed. Going to download this puppy as soon as I finish typing this. Thanks a heap David. You are always up to the challenge that's for sure. Hopefully your algorithm can except masks too, but, even if not, it's still cool that you are able to generate mazes in G'MIC. :)

No, it cannot deal with masks yet, but know you are speaking of it, I think I know how it could do that.
Maybe for a future update :)

Something that would be really nice is when you show a new filter, give the location. I was able to find where to solve a maze, but so far, haven't found where to make one.

This is really great, David. I love it that you keep G'MIC growing. Thank you!

Finally, I found the maze. G'MIC > Rendering > Maze; and G'MIC > Various > Solve Maze.

I started with a 500x500px image and ended up with one that is 150x150px. I used white walls.

The bottom snowleopard one is 64bit. I don't know what the difference is with the other snowleopard ones. That is rather confusing to have so many for the same OS.

I downloaded the Linux one and over-wrote the one I had already with the new one.

OK, thanks, I'm going to try it!

*on second thought...the osx ones are version 1.5.0.1
The only 1.5.0.2 download says something about a tarball? I have no idea what that is but it doesn't sound like it will be something for the mac.

You are right, having a 'coherent' sorted list for the G'MIC filter is becoming a quite hard task. When I code a new filter I'm never sure how to put it.

Yes, I'm not the packager for the Mac version, so we have to wait for Karsten (the one who knows how to compile on a Mac :)) to put the updated files on the web server. Usually, he is very fast in doing that, but maybe he is busy right now.

Thanks for the update! :)
I only have to download and install over previous editions of GMIC with Windows XP.

Some nice new additional filters David.
Thanks again.

Any thoughts on adding any path tools to the GMIC plugin in the future?
Also i was wondering is it possible with GMICs code to create a gradient filter within GMIC that supports live preview?

@Rod : What kind of gradient filter ? Do you have an example of what this filter is intended to achieve ?

Well the way Gimp sees gradients it isn't possible to see the gradient you are creating until you have drawn it out.And it doesn't show a live preview of the created gradient until after you click the mouse button that finishes the gradient line.
I guess what i would like to see in Gimp is a gradient tool somewhat like Inkscapes that draws the gradient live for you so you can see the effect the gradient has as you move the mouse before you apply it.

Here's a quick update of the maze generation filter that allows you now to create 'masked' mazes, like this one :bigthup

Image

Just refresh your filters and you should make it appear.

David a little tip for the new people using Linux, is that when navigating to that folder they need to turn on the ability to show hidden files ;)

*me being a linux newbie had no idea, therefor asked a friend and all is well now*

:)

Works great for me in GIMP 2.7, David thanks
