building a Linux box, What are the benefits as opposed to Windows?

For me, linux means never having to waste time worrying about viruses. Not having to use CCleaner to remove temp files. Having a stable system. Spending more time having fun than fixing something.....

I'm not saying linux is 'perfect'. But it's close to perfect for my needs

Linux OS is free; lots of cool opensource developers have also supported it quite well. I use Windows only since it's my crutch (as GIMP is over PS though I do have CS5 too). I play a few times a week with Linux (via VM) and am quite impressed. Not really hard to use either and Wine does work quite well (for the most part) if you have to run Windows apps.
