Thanks Molly.
I tried that and it doesn't show in the Filters menu.
I made it read and write for all users and executable.
Then i set it to open with Gimp.

Still not showing however. :)

That is really weird.
Just to be sure you've done well:
Extract the file "gmic_gimp" and make sure it is executable. Then copy the file to the hidden folder "~/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins/" (This means /home/YOUR_USER/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins/)
Open Gimp, open a new image, and you see below in the Filters menu if you find G'MIC.

I forgot. that plug-in is just the newest version. You have to also install the GMIC in your new Fedora-17 install.
Look at Gerard and Tux's post.

Rod
1) you have to stick the executable not its folder
Or if you leave in the folder you should modify the gimp preferences to add a path to the gmic subfolder

2) you should install GMIC even if that means just move the file in the plugin folder as root, if not changes my be SILENTLY discarded ...

3) check also the permission of the Gimp-plugin file, may be locked, be sure to grant all needed permission
(may just be "Allow to run as program" and of course you (as Admin) should assign to you (as normal user) the right to use the file

Basically i believe is again a permission problem 2 and 3 should solve

Done and refreshed :)
I just installed libpng from the repositiry and it works now.

I am currently installing PSPI.
Thinking maybe i can run my Redfield filters that way.

Is there a Fedora program that will run 8bf filters?

Nope
but the usual combination Wine , Xnview and RobA shell out script should work well

BTW even if is not clearly specified you need Wine also for run PSPI in linux , without Wine PSPI would not work

I use xnview to use 8bf filters, remember the wire worm.8bf plug-in I was asking about weeks ago. Once I downloaded wine, I could run those files.

No...at least not all and not very well with PSPI, but they will work well with Xnview
(again only the Win version of Xnview +Wine..
there is also a linux version of xnview that is NOT adapt: will not run PS filters, and in general is far to be good as the windows version )

A pity that Wine doesn't support PD pro (at least i tried with PD pro, and the other products but i could only start the programs and load a image in...promising beginning but i could no get further was a crash at soon a did something to edit)
Same was for DAP

instead my favorite fractal programs Aphophysis and Mandelbulb3D work perfectly with wine

How do you install the executes with wine.
Mine try and install in C program files which doesnt exist.

I am all set with my 8bf plugins :) - there is a new linux script that loads wine when you run the plugins.
This is Beautify, Redfield, and Filters Ulimited.
Beautify and Rodilius would probably work excellent together.

I go to filters, then shellout, then that brings up xnview. I open an image then I click photoshop and it brings up the wireworm.8cf and then I remove the wires I want out of the image.

DOES EXIST !...Now , with wine, C : Program Files DOES exist !
Look inside Home/User/.wine (".wine" with that dot before that make the folder invisible,so you should chose to display hidden files) there you will see your C windows drive with Program Files :yes

OR from Wine menu : "browse C drive"

That is pretty cool.

Wish i could get Filter Forge to run through Wine.Alas it throws a scroll error.
Everything else runs fine though.

Glad that you found your C /Program Files
Useful to know to run (old) 8bf and in general the C drive reflects what should be in a (even if emulated) Windows System :
IN PRACTICE if some PS plugin complains about missing "Plugin.dll" or for that other dll with a name impossible to remember (= MRCTV10.dll or something close ) , all you have to do is place the dll in your .wine/C/Windows/System32 folder
