The Text tool is on a separate layer so you can size it anyway you like to fit in with other layers content. You can use one of the transform methods as well. If you mean having a box around the text following it's outline, try growing a text selection of some sort (mask, path).

Perhaps this will help Warped Text

SaulGoode is away at the moment but if you read the topic you may find what you need

i think what hanciong is asking is if you can fill a selection other than a rectangle with text, so that its bound by the selection

and i think the answer is no

Thank you Graechan, but it seems this plugin makes the text "warped". what should I do if I want the text to be "straight"? So there are few lines of text that I want to be written into non-rectangular region. I want the letter to remain straight, not warped.

Thanx

AFAIK no tool or plugin to do this.
There is one to distort some text (the above ref) but I think this is putting text into a frame.

Use Gimp in conjunction with Inkscape.
Make your frame in Gimp, convert it to a path, export as a .svg then use it with the text in Inkscape.
Then export back to Gimp as a png to open as a layer

edit: I did this little video on Saule Goodes script some time ago so it is Gimp 2.6. Just the same in 2.8

or you could make one textlayer for each row and arrange them all manually

If you have this kind of need, you should look into page publishing software such as Scribus.

Esper and rich2005 have the right idea for applying text to a specific shape, other than rectangle, using line by line. The Justify option should be set to filled, use Letter spacing to fine tune.

These are not what your looking for, they're just some examples of playing around with text placement using Graechan's, Comix Text Bubble script.
