It was abandoned, but I took it over. Contact me, if you are interested in being a maintainer.

Could you please explain WHAT you took over ; Wolfgang Hofner left GAP development and you are continuing the project ?

Or is a project to take care of the translations
If this is already a Italian translation of the Gap documentation ?
In case i may help to revise
(not to do only to revise )

A bit off topic maybe you may help me to find the most recent version (not build but the code for the last beta ) of GAP ? Found it seems no so easy as should

I took over the Transifex translation project, which is strictly unofficial, but some people like to use Transifex.

I still can't post links, but GIMP Chat has a thread called "Exact Align via 4-Point Path" and there on page 2 is this quote from the GIMP mailing list:
>> GAP ........ seems to be abandoned by its developer for good.

And this seems more true every day (that it is not abandoned):

Maybe you can find the latest code with the above info.

Commits from 2012, found at MetaGer code search:

3- fixed german menuname translations. Translated message must keep the prefix "<Image>"
4 (that must NOT be translated to "<Bild>")
5
6 fixes lots of translation warnings at Gimp startup with
7 in german setting (LANG=de_DE.UTF-8)
8 that look like this:
9
10 bad translation "<Bild>/Ebene/Transparanz/"
11 for menu path "<Image>/Layer/Transparency/"

20- Performance relevant changes for storyboard when rendering
21 large images.
22 o) gap_frame_fetcher supports caching of prescaled images.
23 o) storyboard render processor look ahead when processing
24 frame types GAP_FRN_IMAGE or GAP_FRN_ANIMIMAGE
25 and calculate the max prescale size.
26
27 look ahead as far as the same imagename is used.
28
29 procedure: p_stb_render_image_or_animimage
30
31 - "gap-image-delete-workarond"
32
33 The workaround disables undo and scales the image down to miniumum size
34 before calling the gimp_image_delete procedure.
35 this way memory resources for big layers will be freed up immediate.
36
37 Note that this workaround implematation is already present in previous
38 GIMP-GAP versions but now can be turned off via gimprc configuration.
39
40 When using GIMP-GAP with gimp-2.6.x it is recommanded to enable this workaround
41 (otherwise encoding videos or stroryboard editing may quickly run out of memory
42 because lots of internally rendering is done by creating temporary images
43 and deletes them immediate after processing).
44
45 This workaround may not be required when GIMP-GAP is used with newer gimp
46 versions. (not yet tested)

56- Speed up for the BlendFill filter.
57 Use tile chache and write back only changed rows/columns
58 for performance reasons.

There is also a GitHub repo: github . com/GNOME/gimp-gap
..but its last commit is from June 2012.

The GNOME Git repository is the host of the GAP's source code, just as it is for the GIMP's.

Welcome to GC.

It was me who made that reference to the gimp mailing list.
Not abandoned, true, but minimum development.
I think now I know why Wolfgang and other creators of C plugins for GIMP are not in a hurry to come up with updates to their stuff.
Between GIMP 2.6 and 2.8 it was a slight change in program's API and the developers wanted to minimize those changes (as they stated, they did not want to affect 3rd party plugins) We all know what that means when we switched to 2.8.

But between 2.8 and 2.10 it will be a huge leap in GIMP development. And the program's API will change significantly.
First of all, I mean GEGL, of course. GEGL is a new library, which will require all GIMP stuff written in C and C# to be re-written and coded/ported to new libraries.
Take the GAP, for example. It contains dozens of separate C plugins. Now image amount of work to be done.
There is no timetable for 2.10 release, but taking into account the current state of development and rate of progress, 2.10 won't see light of the day till summer 2014 (my optimistic prognosis) I don't see any incentives for Wolfgang to speed up GAP development at this point. And I don't blame him, naturally.

Thanks, I added a mention to the Transifex project that people should coordinate their work with the GNOME repo.
