hmmm... i never liked the satin effect or thought it could be useful for anything, but it seems i was wrong. seems you can do all sorts of fun things with it if you're a bit creative.
and i'm ashamed of myself, i really should have recognized my own grunge pattern - but then i made so many of them.

i used two patterns for this, the one directly visible and one that i used to bump map the paisleys. i used one black satin effect layer and one satin effect layer with the tie-dyeish pattern darkened.

That is beautifu AnMal. Because of the Prism's in my glasses, I can see 3 or 4 dimensions and the reds, yellows and blues are all different heights. I love it.

molly: i wish i had your glasses . i like what you made too, with the softed pattern and the double ring outline. it is a bit funny, even for me, but looking at your result makes me think of lavender scents .

I used the same font he did but the rest, I have to idea what I did. I couldn't figure out how dd did that beautiful shiny text and I still can't get it.

molly: oh, the gloss of that top one! have you really no idea what you did to it? did you start out with the satin effect?

i have to admit that all my experiments have wandered a long way off from the actual satin. i never liked the satin effect because it doesn't look one bit like satin and if it doesn't look like satin, then what use is a satin effect? so i was inspired by all espers examples where there was no obvious satin effects, just shading and/or highlighting.

i think when you blur the offset layers before merging down, there is a slight similarity to satin
maybe a better word would be silk or sheen, because i think it can give a smooth effect to your text

example 5 started with the idea to make something with a glass-look, because thats what a PS tutorial about satin suggests what it can be used for
the pattern in the middle is actually pretty ugly
