Having had the last card I designed now printed, I was impressed with the quality, colour and price so have designed another, this time for a dedication.

Pleased with the results, some things to mention though, the black around the main text seems to have pixelated where I have scaled the image down to post here, the main design is A5 @ 300px.
The only other thing to mention about is the baby picture in the middle which was obtain from here (sweetclipart.com), the original will have an actually photo of the child.

Onto the design, the main bottlecap image was based on my own tutorial, which is an interpretation of a design by micki.
Also would like to mention the main pink and white background which started life as a polkadot design created using G'mic but it just seemed to much. So after trying the curve bend filter to give it a more interesting shape, didn't look right, eventually went with the ripple filter which created these wonderful abstract egg shapes. I think because they appear more random than the circles it breaks up the background and stops it being to dominant which it was before.



I am happy with the design but Odinbc suggested this colour palette and I couldn't help but explore the possibilities of the colours and design.I even managed to include the yellow that came along for the ride

What do you all think to the possible revisions.

That's a nice job he4rty. I would have thought reducing it would prevent pixellation but then what do I know?

so I'm trying to remember Esper's trick to smooth edges...slight blur, then curves on alpha channel to round it back down to a smooth edge????? or was it something else on alpha channel?

I am not sure if it is the same thing but in The Salvation Army we don't have Christenings but Dedications of babies or young children.

Esper - Thanks, the ripple effect on the polka dots was one of those happy accidents, wasn't what I was expecting!
Kit - Again thanks for the comment, I don't feel I really have much imagination either, just enjoy putting shapes and things together.
O - A dedication is similar to a christening or baptism expect without the water, as our church does believers baptisms when you are older.

he4rty: i remember that bottlecap tutorial! you did a really fine job reworking the design to make the card, i'm sure it will be well appreciated. i think you're right about the "egg dots" they made the background pattern a lot less dominant and it's refreshing after all the polka dots you see everywhere these days.

I like the design but the basic black part didn't look right to me.
I thought shades of grey might work and then I went to Color Scheme Designer and came up with this palette.
The green is a nice tone of your original one and the purple shade might be a good replacement for the black.



(The pink was a color pick from your graphic and the yellow came along for the ride.)

Odinbc - Thanks for the suggested colour palette, I do like the original but if I find time I shall have a look at exploring those colours.

he4rty: hmm... i first didn't like the second one at all, but after a few looks i thought it was okay. i like the first one a lot better, though. the design builds a lot on the bold colour combination, and that combo needs the black to work. the new colours may go well together without the black but they lack they visual kick and bite of the first set of colours and that makes the design weaker - in my opinion, that is.
