Hello from Germany!
My name is Robbin and I was born and raised in Southern California. I'm a completely new user of Gimp, having used Adobe Photoshop for the last 12 years. Upon moving to Germany a little over a year ago I had lost my CD case, whereupon my treasured PS CD was nested. I thought, no problem I will just report that, as it was registered and they (being Adobe) could send me a link or mail me another CD. Not so fast they said. Tho I had provided them with my registration info (an email I'd long since ditched when I discovered gmail) they refused to provide me with the replacement. Unless of course I paid for it. Which I was not about to do.
Thoroughly frustrated I let that sit on the back burner for a little while (turned out to be about a year) because my software installed on my PC functioned superbly still.
Fast forward to last week. After having done a virus scan, my .exe file to Adobe was "eaten". Rendering me up crap creek and without a paddle!
After another furiously frustrating battle with Adobe, I decided forget this. I am going to try Gimp. I've seen wonderful creations via Youtube and Deviant Art. So that is my story, that is why I am here and that is how I came to Gimp Chat Forum. If I am to learn I want to be a part of a community of users who know their business and answer the multitude of noob questions I will have in the immediate future. So next step is to head to the tutorials section and scour away at my ignorance.
Pleased to meet you all!
Sincerely,
Robbin

:welcome to Gimp Chat, Robbin.

GIMP is different from PhotoShop, but your experience in using an image manipulation program will probably make it easier for your switch to GIMP. It will be frustrating at times because there are things in PS that GIMP doesn't do the same but you will be able to find great workarounds.

Feel free to ask a lot of questions. We LOVE n00bs; they are our future experts.

Welcome to GC... :)

I just recently uninstalled CS5 and gained back lots of valuable hard-drive space.

You should be a quick learner, given the knowledge that you have of PS.

Welcome to GIMP Chat! What kind of work do you do? I started digital painting with GIMP about 5 years ago. It's a great tool for learning... when I first started, I couldn't draw anything.

Thank you all for the very warm welcome! Ihr seid sehr nett!
I don't want to make it seem as though I had used my Adobe in a professional capacity. That would be fraudulent of me. I have used it primarily for graphic design on a pro bono level. For a browser game, and business logos, banners, cards etc etc
So I have learned half of what I could have I am certain. As I had never delved too far into animation, or flash or any other facets of Adobe.
I think this could be a good thing however, because it leaves room in my brain to learn and adjust to Gimp and it's platform.
Here are some examples of what I had been doing.
