2.10 questions

GIMP Version: 2.10.4
Operating System: Linux
OS Version: Unbuntu Studio 18.04
GIMP Experience: Experienced User

List any relevant plug-ins or scripts:
G'mic

Hey guys, been a long while, but I have just upgraded to 2.10.4 from 2.8 and have a couple questions which I could not find answered on the forum.

First, the Gimp UI is a little larger than I like. I had a small theme with small icons in 2.8. This does not seem to work on the 2.10 version. Is there anyway to modify the file to make it compatible with 2.10?

Second, I installed via flatpak but I cannot find the files on my computer. I find the gimp folder in /home/nixnine/.var/app/org.gimp.GIMP/ but there are no files. I have not been able to find a /.gimp-2.10 folder anywhere either. I have searched everywhere through the file system but cannot seem to find the program files. Have I overlooked something?

Third, I have not been able to get G'mic to work. Research here and online seems to suggest it is usable in 2.10. Is that so, and how do I install it where it is accessible? I can access the Gmic demos and Zart in terminal but it is not available in Gimp. Am I doing something wrong?

1) You should find your files in: /home/nixnine/.var/app/org.gimp.GIMP/config/GIMP/2.10

2) G'mic won't work with the FlatPak because of SandBoxing issues. You can use the Latest Gimp2.10.5 though. It already comes with the latest G'mic 2.3.4 pre-installed. https://github.com/aferrero2707/gimp-ap ... 4.AppImage

Or install the latest PPA and you'll be able to install G'mic normally.

I use an old theme as well but now that Theme and Icon Theme are separate, have you checked that the icon slider bottom of Edit -> Preferences -> Icon Theme is set to 'Small'. That one is too small for me and I have to bump it up to 'Medium'.

Other than that, one that you will already know is reducing the number of tools showing in the toolbox. For newcomers a short video https://youtu.be/8M2P0N-qhm0

Yes, you have overlooked something.

I use Kubuntu 16.04 and the flatpak. The Gimp 2.10 profile is in ~/.config/GIMP/2.10 same as any other regular Gimp 2.10 You should have in any of the the folder paths Edit -> Preferences -> Folders the ~/.var reference but that points to ~./config
Running Gimp 2.10 first time will copy resources and some settings across from Gimp 2.8 profile. Best check that these have not screwed anything up.
Keep an eye on ~/.var/app/org.gimp.GIMP/cache/ it can fill up with thumbnails and .xbel files. Needs cleaning out now and again.

The QT version will not work. QT support is absent in the Gimp Flatpak. It is possible to get the the now discontinued GTK version working. I have this installed but it takes a bit of work and I am not sure if the files I use will also work in 'buntu 18.

If you want a cutting edge Gimp 2.10 which includes gmic_qt then you should go for the latest appimage from https://github.com/aferrero2707/gimp-appimage/releases/

Thanks. I downloaded the appimage and that seemed to solve all the problems. The only thing I miss is GAP but I have an alternative to that. I just loved the integration with Gimp.

Been a while since I've been here, but is the gimpscripts page down for good?

as far as anyone knows,

will be down indefinitely until further notice.

May be an internet resource,
which can help to access gimpscripts.com.

I have the app image - GIMP_AppImage-release-2.10.6-x86_64.AppImage - but there is no gmic plugin present in the program. Have I done something wrong?

You have done nothing wrong. It is a new 'testing' version. No QT support, so no gmic_gimp_qt
