This is a small thing, and I'll bet I'm missing something very obvious. When you have layer groups, and create a new layer or layer group, it always goes into the group (even if the group is collapsed). How can you make a new layer above (outside) the layer group?
I can't find this in the manual and I've tried ctrl, shift, and alt in various combinations. You can always drag it out of the group and put it where you want it, but is there a more direct way?
