Lovely work as usual, AnMal! Still have no idea what that song is.
Maybe i'm too young to remember?

Googling for "lyrics ninety nine" gets the auto-complete "lyrics ninety nine red balloons".

Yes lovely work :paint AnMal. Funny the pic made me think of a much earlier song (I doubt it is correct so I wont say what I was thinking). Doesn't really fit with the picture anyhow.

I would also 99 balloons from Nena perhaps find new form or I did not notice that also are German or at least unterstand it. :)

It is interesting for that learned now that in english Version the red balloons instead of childrensballloons or airballoon. In German was no colour told.

Nice work AnMal, I too would go for 99 Red Balloons, Which I believe was a protest song against the nuclear weapon stock piling of the eighties.

nice composition as usual, AnMal

99 Lufballons, lol
that was a time when we germans suddenly could stand hearing our own language in pop songs
before that i was deemed uncool and only english was acceptable

there was a whole wave, called Neue Deutsche Welle, in that era
and a lot of it was utter crap, as everybody wanted a slice of the pie

for the american audience they did a rerelease in english of Nena's song
thats why there are two versions

k1tesseraena: thanks brother! maybe you're too young to remember or maybe you just didn't notice it :).

ofnuts: clever googling on your part, hehe.

sallyanne: thank you! you're so right, it's of course 99 luftballons.

abraess: true, the english version of the lyrics specify the balloons as red. but i first heard the english version in the late nineties and i still pictured the balloons as red back in the e9ghties when i heard the original.

he4rty: thank you :)! yeah, i liked the song even more after mum had explained the lyrics to me (i was only ten or eleven when it came out and only understood "luftballons"), but i think lots of people just liked the tune.

esper: thank you! in sweden we love making fun of the german language - it's similar enough to swedish to sound comical - but no one ever made fun of 99 luftballons and the english version never made it here, we prefer the original.

This song was a pretty big hit in the UK when it was first released, and after a quick rummage around in a cupboard I found that I've still got the seven inch vinyl copy of it I bought back in the day.
I also found a copy of Duel by Propaganda who, if memory serves, were another German band. And a great song it is too. Now all I need is a turntable to play some of this old stuff on :gaah
