Here's a neat tutorial on how to make your own stereogram manually: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/t ... -tutorial/

I found a hard way to do solid objects in gimp with a lot of copying layers that were rendered layer via visible and then moving things over from left to right etc. I tried to make this hand in manually in gimp.

Here's a internet program that makes stereograms from images that you can upload: http://www.easystereogrambuilder.com/

Cool. I know there's a Photoshop plugin for this, but not sure if it'll work in GIMP or not.

EDIT: Here it is: http://www.hidden-3d.com/stereogram_pho ... filter.php

GIMP can do stereograms too.

Still works in 2.8x

Note that you will, unfortunately, get a lot of pop-up errors but just ignore them (wish someone would re-compile this plugin for the modern GIMP and also make a 64-bit compile too; lol). Your depthmap has to be a greyscale image (set to greyscale). Run the plug-in on the depthmap keeping your target texture in a separate opened window. Best that your target texture width be tileable and set the exact width and the width setting in the plugin. :)
