Greetings to all users of the GIMP.

I am now on the beginner level in Gimp. So, I made the icon size 256x256, which does not have so many details. I'm troubled by the view in different sizes, such as 16x16, 24x24, 64x64, ... In which best way I can make this icon in different sizes and that when it does not lose much in the details? Do I need to manually create icons in different sizes?
I hope I'm in the right place and I apologize if I missed a similar topic in this forum.

I haven't made too many but in my experience it is better to make them larger then reduce them to the size you want. To go from small to large, you do lose the crispness of the image.

That's what I always did too, when making icons. Make it bigger, then resize to smaller. You can always go to Filters>Enhance>Sharpen, and crisp it back up a bit again. I used to make icons all the time. As a matter of fact, making themes for mp4 players is what brought me to GIMP in the first place.

Well, thank you all for your answers. I have already tried to scale the icon and turns out quite well but some details are lost in the smaller sizes. That's why I will try to manually fix smaller icons. No big deal.

Intscape is very good program but I prefer Gimp because I have first started to learn in Gimp. I heard somewhere that Intscape sometimes have problems with scaling images.
