A Love Heart is a sweet with a message you share with the person you love, just in case they are not universally known here is a LINK to the wiki page giving you most of the information you need.

I have had an attempt at creating one, this is my result...



Fairly pleased but still think it could be improved hence the challenge.

Had used the multi-replicate tool to scale the heart and text plus also to offset it by -1px in the vertical to create the depth, realised that this was giving a false image as the text was scaling in toward the centre rather than scaling in along the bevel, so have just redone text and heart manually. Also corrected the shadow so it is at the correct angle.

He4rty, I am not surprised that you have not had any answers to your challenge. It is very difficult. I have spent 5 hours on a believable Love Heart. Unfortunately, Gimp struck again and it locked up. I shall do it again tomorrow (2.45 am here) Need my beauty sleep. BTW it will be difficult to better your image.

Wbool, thanks for the comment, I think so far the hardest part has been texture and colour although I still think the bevel could do with more work.

Thanks He4rty. It wasn't as easy as I thought it would be.

As I said earlier on, I found it very difficult. My main difficulty is using the various bevel and emboss filters to achieve a correct profile. In the end I reverted back to using various drop shadows and hand blending to get some sort of believable lolly. I am not satisfied with the end result and I am working on another lolly. Anyway here is my result.

Pretty good wooble... You have the texture right if I remember the last time I had any of those heart candys, they looked just like yours.

Thank You Molly, here is another image using bevel and emboss filters instead of drop shadows to raise the lettering. I don't think I can do much better than this. I still had to use manual blending and erasing to get a somewhat believable lolly.

@He4rty , This was not easy! And I am still not happy with the final result.

Rod - Thats a nice heart shaped sweet and the text looks good.
wbool - As Molly mentioned the texture looks really good and the bevel looks pretty good as well.

bloody - Very nice take on the challenge and very refreshing to see a handrawn piece of work rather than the usual clinical filter manipulations ( No offence people because I'm just a guilty.)

Please make more challenges, i had much fun doing this

There is something similar called "Sweethearts", but they don't have a circle, they are just heart shaped with a message on them. like "Call me".

The USA version, conversation hearts, have a limit if four letters in the one or two words. Like love me, you rock, love you, ....etc. the stores sell them for valentines day.

I will leave this for all the mathematicians. I cheated.

Not sure on the text molly but the heart certainly looks good enough to eat.
