Hello!

Ok, I guess I'm not going to be able to make any kind of 3D logo that is animated. It's way out of my software learning curve at the time. I would have had to retraced every aspect of the logo in Blender and went from there!

I've attached my logo that I'm using here -> <-

I freelance for this soccer club here in Indy only thing I get for my time is perhaps a gift card to get a meal. And these folks have updates almost every week when the Spring and Fall seasons are in play. I just want to note that so whatever help I'm not getting paid for it. That wouldn't be right to ask for help and I'm getting monetarily compensated and you're not getting anything for your knowledge. With that said.

Is there anything I can do to give this some depth make it look more badge like? This is rather a really crude drawing of what I'm hoping to do. It's in my head right now ( <- scary thought) The idea ->

BTW I just completed my COMPTIA A+ class ( with a 99.03% grade =)) ) now it's on to the vendor test!

There are a lot of ways to add depth depending on the effect you're looking to achieve.

Couldn't really improve much on the previous bump mapped images so decided to take a different approach and use the map object>cylinder filter to curve the shield.

You know .. I do have the original bit map file for this. I just found it. I have no idea who did it or what they did it in.

I'm happy to let you know how I got my results.

Created a simple bumpmap
1) Duplicate the image
2) Desaturate the duplicated image
3) Gauss blur the desaturated image (by 5 I think - maybe less)
4) Color inverted the desaturated image

Used the Lighting Effects filter to add depth
1) Select the original logo image
2) Filters/Light and Shadow/Lighting Effects
3) Under the Bumpmap tab: enable, select the bumpmap created above, curve linear, depth 0.01
4) Under the lighting tab, Type is point, adjust the X & Y position so the light is at the center of the logo, adjust the Z axis so the light is at the correct distance from the image (not to bright or dark)
5) Click OK to apply the Lighting Effect

Once that was done I added a couple of inner shadows to the lighting bolts, added a background and drop shadow.

That's about it.

I'm not aware of any specific mobile app that would work well for this site. At one point, I had enabled a scaled down theme, suitable for mobile devices, but it had limited functionality compared to this style, which is heavily customized. No one was using the mobile style anyway, so I just disabled it.

This site is so heavy on graphics that there would really need to be specific software on the back-end to serve mobile devices. I know there are a couple of commercial packages that will serve up phpBB3 sites to mobile devices, in some optimized form, but I'm not really prepared to support that, at this point.

I did enable compression on the server this morning, which should help pages load faster on your mobile device's web browser (and on other platforms, like desktops, too). Hopefully that will help some.

You can monitor the RSS and Twitter feed from your mobile device, which can be of some assistance.

How'd I do???

I used the perspective tool to try and lay it down a little bit. And then used the sharpen tool to make it just a little crisper and not so fuzzy.

If your are after curving the image similar to the post I made then to start with you will need to prepare your image to limit distortion.

1. Assuming you are still using the same size layers as where posted in the xcf file, select the shield layer and make sure it is the same size as the image, you can do this by going Layers>Layer to Image Size. Then go Layer>Scale Layer, Change the height and width settings as follows, by dividing the width by 4 and multipling by 3 the same for the height, if your chain is linked then just doing one setting will affect the other. Go Layer>Layer to Image Size. The next step is just to shrink the layer on the width only, so open back up the scale layer window and next to the two input boxes for width and height you should see a linked chain, click on the chain to unlink it. Then divide the width by 2 and go Layer to Image size again.

2. Create a new transparent layer and select your badge layer, Go Filters>Map>Map Object and a new window will open. On the first tab "options" make sure Transparent Background is checked and Map to is changed to Cylinder.
On the next Tab "Light" Change Lightsource Light to "Direction Light"
Ignore the next tab "Material"
On the tab "Direction" under the sub heading Rotation change the X value to -15.
On the last Tab "Cylinder" under the sub heading Images for Cap Faces change both bottom and top to the transparent layer created earlier. Under the sub heading Size change Radius to 0.40

Then click OK and sit back and wait as this can take some time or might even crash as is known some times, so save your work prior to using this filter.

I'm been trying but can't seem to figure out how to give it some thickness from the example Tux drummed up. So it doesn't look so flat. The logo has some depth to it now but needs thickness so the perspective works better.

Ugh!

Once you have done the perspective then duplicate layer and lower the new layer below the original then go layer>transform>Offset, set Y to 1 and click ok, then repeat process on this new layer, keep going till you have the thickness you require.

Here it is after adding a few lighting effects.





I thought it would look good with a bevel around the edge, I couldn't see where I could do this.

That's working out well! I'll have to remember that for future use. Most of the time I only work on flat things. =(
