I entered this month's challenge at http:\\www.cartographersguild.com which was to map a "landship". If you are a Monty Python fan, you will be familiar with The Crimson Permanent Assurance short film, so I mapped the building...

Most of the line-work was done as B&W in Inkscape, but all the compositing, blueprint colour, "Crimson" effect, print bleed and shading was done in Gimp so I figure it classes as "Gimp Art"

how did you get the inkbleed to spread only to one side ?
my guess its done with 'Spread', right ?

alos how did you get tha feltpen effect on the crimson text ?

My original was black on white. I inverted it, set the mode to screen and duplicated it. As you guessed, I used a 2px spread on the duplicate, plus a 1 px gaussian blur. To make it one sided and patchy, I added a layer mask that I filled with random HSV noise, then ran a motion blur on the mask. A bit of playing with mask levels, and layer opacity, and Bob's your uncle.

The red felt pen was the result of repeated trial and error that involved blurs, motion blurs, the oilify filter, more blurring, edge detects, and on and on to the point where I have no real idea . At the end, I also locked the layer transparency and freehand painted with the tablet to add depth...

Very Nice work Rob, I especially like the dead parrot and the two departments of redundancy. The year is 1901, were telephones in use at that time? (sorry not trying to be picky)

The building was built in 1901, but takes sail much later, once telephones exist.

Haha, I have never seen that clip before. Brilliant. I agree now, the telephones are not an anachronism. The large version on CartographersGuild is beautiful. (a lot more detail becomes visible)
