Problem with saving transparent .png

Hi. I have followed tute http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoYDIrppc2s and made xcf image with rounded corners.

When saving as .png it says "Couldn't loslsessly save transparency, saving opacity instead" and saves as non rounded corners.

Any idea?

that is very strange. png should save as transparency. jpg doesn't

Do you need your image to be in Indexed mode? If not, then convert it to RGB mode ("Image->Mode->RGB") before saving as a PNG.

Hi, I'm having a similar problem- no matter what I do I can't get it to save an image with a transparent background. On GIMP it looks transparent, and I can export it as png, but the file then ends up having a white or black background... any help much appreciated. Thanks!

You probably need to Add Alpha Channel to the background layer.
Layer → Transparency → Add Alpha Channel

OR remove the background layer if you have two layers.

Oh- may be my problem there... I only see one layer on the menu. I'll have to figure out how to make sure there's just one layer. Any way I can confirm that?

O, okay, if you only see one layer, that is probably all there is. Does the background you are working on have a white, or black or a checkboard? Try Odins suggestion, if it has an alpha channel it should save as transparent.

Yeah, it's a checkerboard background... but again, it doesn't give me an option to add an alpha channel. Weird, huh?

That is because if it has a checkboard background it is already transparent that means it has an alpha channel already, this is weird, When your export it as a png, are you saying it ends up with a white background?

Then I am stumped. If you are sure your layer is checkerboard and no other layers are present, it has to be transparent, unless we are both missing something. Could you post your xcf or a screen shot of your layer dialogue?

Go File, save as, name it and leave the xcf extension. Then upload it with the upload attachment at the bottom of your post.
