Hi, I'm still struggling with my attempts to create a transparency from a photo graph, but in the process my computer had to be replaced. I still have the old drive, but don't know where the GIMP files are, and I get 1 *.xcf file, any one know where I might find the rest?

When you say you have the old drive, do you mean the hard drive from the old computer? Can't you install a new Gimp into your new computer? I don't quite understand your question.

You can save GIMP files anywhere you want. Is it possible that you've saved the files in a format other than .XCF?

File searches are notoriously unreliable in MS Vista. I've used Vista machines that couldn't find files I knew were there and knew where they were.

You might want to take a look at 3rd party search apps for Vista.

You could just look manually in all the folders accessible by your user, My Documents, My Pictures and such.

Another thought is that you might be running into permissions issues and you might not have access to all the data on that old drive, when accessing it from a new system. Make sure you have full admin rights to the drive.

Yes I have the old hard drive and Gimp is installed on the new computer. Trouble is; how do I get the files from The old hard drive to the new GIMP.

I am the admin. so that isn't a problem.
I've done a manual search, but don't seem to be finding all the files.... I just wondered if there was a back up file some where in the app data?

Gimp doesn't backup your files. Are you searching all the old drive or just a user folder? What are you using for search? Is the old drive a second hard drive or networked?

By default Gimp saves your files in "My documents". If you have the old drive attached, this will be in "L:\Users\your_id\My Documents\" where "L:" is the letter with which the disk appears in your explorer, and "your_id" is the id you used on that computer.
