Quick forest exercise :) I've been super busy, but it's nice to find at least a little time to draw.

"Exercise"...When that becomes an exercise you've officially gone pro! xD

I love the overhead opening in the forest canopy.

Glad you noticed the atmosphere :) I think my definition of "quick" has changed, too, though. This took me about 3-5 hours, worked on a little bit at a time over much too long. When I had less patience, 3-5 hours would've been considered "a long time".

Thank you :D

Thanks ~ I had the hardest time with that part. Somehow I always feel like I just have one big blob of leaves instead of several trees.

I love landscape scenery drawing. Its beautiful merrak, what a wonderful talent. :clap :jumpclap :wow

Thanks:) I'm more confident with landscapes than people; this was more fun to work on than the portraits I did earlier in the month.

That is so beautiful Merrak, I would love to be able to do backgrounds like that... mine suck. I think I need some kind of tutorial on those kinds of backgrounds.

If this is a quick forest exercise, I'd like to see one that you have taken your time on. This is very high quality work merrak and wonderfully done.

I thought about making a forest tutorial, but I make so many mistakes. Half of it would be erasing :P Maybe a written tutorial would be better than video.

If I had more time, I'd go in and draw some more individual leaves. I think detail up close is what's missing.

I like written tutorials best. I can draw trees fine but when I put leaves on them, it looks like a patch quilt. I find grass and foreground difficult too.

That looks absolutely great! :bigthup
I love your use of dark and light contrast, gives you the feeling that you're stepping out of a very dense and dark forest.

That's the part I have the hardest time with. I try to keep in mind that whoever is viewing the painting is probably not paying as close attention to the grass as I am while drawing it. Same for leaves. If you look at this painting (link), the leaves in the big tree are just blobs. I doubt most people would ever notice, since it gets lost in the big picture.

@BaukjeSpirit, @PhotoComix

Thanks :)

Wow some very talented artists in there... I love the ones with the light shining through the trees in the forest.
