Maybe Griatch will know, I haven't seen him lately. I would like to be able to use those 4 brushes in MyPaint, that I posted

I have been working on this picture forever trying to fit a background that suits. I tried a fall one and it was too busy and several others so I settled on this one. Anyway, I thought it was kind of pretty for this time of year.
It started out with just the birds and the tree but it looked too lonely.

Thank you RD, Since I am not very good at making grass, I thought this might work better.

This is really good Molly. The fence adds a nice finishing touch.

This is nice! :D
I think the tree could use some more defined bark lines but it's still nice!
I draw a wood type pattern using black then turn opacity down or use overlay and maybe play with opacity to make bark look a little better.

The birds are very nice too! Only thing I see is I think only females have yellow feathers, males are red, I'm not sure if they can have yellow and red feathers.
Gj!

Thank you he4rty. I was hoping for more feedback before it disappeared off the front page. Yes, I could put a bow around the tree. I like feedback, good or bad, then maybe I can improve on the next one or even this one.

hey molly, the only thing i would change about your painting of the tree and the cardinals is the top of the tree. i am taking that the tree is broke off at the top. in my opinion i think it should be more defined. i hope you don't mind but i am posting a picture below to show what i am saying. but other than that i really love what you did with this painting.

Thank you rd, I don't mind at all, That tree has been bothering me too. I also think maybe since it is so close, I should saturate it more with darker colors. I will see what I can do.

I think you've done a really nice job of setting the scene Molly. The only thing that comes to mind is the ratio of the size of the fence, to the tree and birds.

Thank you Odin, do you think the fence should be higher? I think I can change that.

Yes, look at it this way the birds appear to be the same height as the fence.

I agree that would be a nice greeting card.

Yes, the fence size is better and the top of the tree looks realistic.

I added some shading and depth to it to show you what I mean by depth!

I added shading using GIMP, black on one layer using overlay and light on another using white and overlay, after it looked how I wanted (playing with opacity and such) then I made new layer from visible and did white balance and curve a bit, then overlayed a gradient and turned opacity down to make it have more depth.

Looking now I think I should have added to the logs of the fence too, I didn't think of anything but the tree and birds. xD
