So I made another flower. This one I did on my own, and experimented with smudging which I learned about way back when I first started to try gimp. I am rather proud of this my second attempt at flowers.

I love it. You did an excellent job on the blending and the color is beautiful.

Came out nice. I like the little yellow pollenblobs (That's a technical term now) at the center.

I ran into an issue with the duplicating and shrinking. It seemed to keep making the layer grids bigger and bigger taking it longer and longer to shrink and rotate. I think that had to do with the fact that I was duplicating the layer and not the petal. But I still learned a few more things!

I didnt like the black solid shadow left over in the end, it seemed way to dark so I thought the pollen would cover that.

Can always right click it and autocrop the layer, rotating adds space, autocrop crops it away again.

You need that dark shadow in the center of the flower, it gives it depth. If that wasn't there, it would look flat with no dimension.

No, she means the excess transparent stuff you get if you take one petal and rotate it. You can just crop that right back down. Else it explodes into huge unwieldy square layers because you rotate these petals so much.

Lovely flower! I think the leaves could be a bit more detailed image wise, composition wise the leaves might have taken away with more detail so it's a toss up. (Imo.)

Nice work! :D

Nice work on the flower, you could try a very subtle drop shadow on each petal which would lift the flower depth even more.

I am still working on leaves. I want to practice more with trying to get the leaf edges to curl and I am thinking of using a lighter color for the veins. Yeah I slacked a little on the leaves but I think I ended up with about 50 some layers in the flower and was getting tired at that point.

try placing a small shadow on the under side of the leaves, remembering which direction the light is coming from,
or using your dodge and burn tool to make the leaves look like they are curled up.
