They need to go to another server entirely, preferrably one in the U.S. imo. I do like GIMPTalk, but have posted less and less each time they go down. I personally believe the more GIMP forums the better, but I do believe I found a cool home here at GIMPChat (still there's GIMPer, but I like it here more). I do hope GIMPTalk finally gets a reliable server that doesn't go down every other day and then sometimes stay down for 2 weeks more or less. Before GIMPChat, I had definitely some withdraw anxiety (especially when I wanted to share my gyroid concoctions where I knew they would be appreciated). lol

To be honest I joined Gimper two days ago, because GimpTalk went down again, and I joined here just today as well for the same reason, but I wanted to check it out here, and hopefully have a new home for Gimp, as I do like GimpTalk myself, but with the fact it keeps going down, and where I wasn't getting notified of new posts or anything like that I posted less, but still visited everyday, and I noticed it was loosing views and visitors each day because of these problems.

I actually like that the most current topics are listed first since it encourage participation in threads that most others would not do in categorized sites. More fun and as a result learn a lot more then pidgeon hole-ing yourself to a single thread (like I tended to do at GIMPTalk). Better then all that, GIMPTalk has had some recent issues again, though I was able to post an ice sculpture bust there just before it got hosed a few hours. I do like GIMPTalk, but issues like this forced me to find a new main GIMP site. I'll participate at GIMPTalk too; like the folk there and it's no wonder since many of the folk there happen to be members here too. Knocking a site like GIMPChat is not cool; just an opinion and many others, including me, have a different one. I won't knock GIMPTalk since I like it too when I can get to it. :)

I have seen more mature posts here than any other gimp forum to be honest.
This site is crisp, and clear in it's design.Easy to navigate and find what you need right away.

If you can not find what you need here, someone will help you pretty quickly i might add.
Also that help is pretty precise in answering.Clear and concise.

You are welcome to stay and find that out for yourself btw. Image

What good is a graphics forum with non-functional image links? I've learned more here in a matter of days than I could have learned from the plethora of broken tutorials at that other site in months.

I like both, but GT is down entirely too much... like tonight again!

It's working again now. Noticed a few issues yesterday that at least wasn't long term. Might be a hit limit with the site (which I thought the new servers suppose to fix). Still, did get a post in yesterday. :)

I tend to view on-line communities as somewhat synergistic, with forums having an impact whereby their combined effect is greater than the sum of their individual effects.

I still go to GT and post there. I like what's there. It's just such a pain when I get a reply ready to post and the site has gone down. It's sad because there's so much good information there that can benefit gimp users.

There's room on the 'net for more than one gimp site and I frequent several of them.

Gimp Chat is my home site and I love it here. It's like we're all one great team working with each other, bouncing ideas off each other and we get some pretty wild and wacky (and usable) ideas going. Members are willing to lean back and laugh and play with each other. What a cool group!

Indeed, and well said O! :hehe :clap

I too frequent Gimp Chat more than any other forum.I feel more at home here.
I am a Global moderator at Gimper, and i believe there is much to learn there also.
Gimp Talk i do not frequent much, but i agree there is a lot of useful info there for everyone to benefit.

I do think they will get their server running soon, and be up and running full throttle again. :)

Today, when I logged into Gimp Talk I also had to do a captcha to get logged in. I wish now that I had a screen shot of the reason for it because I don't remember what the message about it said was the reason for it. Anyway, I didn't have to do a repeat captcha even after I cleared my cookies and cache and restarted Firefox.

A while back, I tried to update one of my tutorials on GIMPtalk and was blocked from access unless I participated in a survey (apparently the tutorial was considered a "premium service").

Aside from that, I am quite satisfied with the variety of GIMP user forums and personal websites scattered throughout the web. GIMP's greatest feature is its users' willingness to share with and help each other.

That's strange. I just now went over there and tried editing one of my tutorials over there and didn't get a survey request.

Something weird is happening over there I think.

I agree. There are many great GIMP sites.

I know O; fustrating isn't it. I actually was able to visit it in the daytime, but it seemed like it would go down at night (CST time here). Not sure the what the deal is; it's the reason (thanks to you) that GIMPChat is now my main GIMP home (and I like GIMPChat's interface better anyway not to mention familiar and friendly folk that hang out here as well). I do post occasionally over there but not so much. Sad. It was my first GIMP site and been a member there for several years now. Oh well. Life goes on. :)

I hear ya Lyle. Gimp Talk has so much information that can be utilized. I hate to see it in its current condition. Spammers are rampant in there right now, too.

It would be so nice if some one could clean it up and fix it so that it's like it used to be.
