Does anyone here know how to create ebook covers in gimp? is this eve possible or will i need another program?

They are just images, so sure. (I prefer inkscape for such layout tasks, though, personally) Here is a good read:

Gimp can definitely do it. This is what I used to make my book covers for my layer mask ebook as well as my replacing picnik book!

ebook covers are as simple as making a jpg or png or in some cases pdf the right dimensions for the publishing platform. The specific sites should have a section where all this is explained. Then you just create the cover as a normal image.
