I added the brushes, patterns and gradients to my 2.8 folder under my filename. They show up fine. I also for fun wanted to see the presets from his sessionrc, so I downloaded and installed this as well. This is silly question but how do I know I have it working?

Here's what I know:
1) The sessionrc file I downloaded had to be converted to plain text in mac os. I deleted the .txt extension and it accepts now the data from the program when it closes. Before, I hadn't deleted the .txt and so a new sessionrc kept being added by Gimp because it didn't "see" the preconfigured sessionrc file. So, I believe it should be working. (this is my observation, I'm no expert. Just troubleshooting)

2) When I open Gimp, I see same kinda of layout as before. I because I'm still trying to learn it? But from pics I see, it doesn't look anywhere close. Thought there'd be more dockable dialogues in the window?

You can configure your docks and layout to any way you want, I have some on the right dock and others on the left.
Every time I look at a screen shot that someone has posted, they have them set up the way that works best for them, so I don't think there is any right or wrong way.

Oh, I had impression the sessionrc file made by Ramon was set up with prearranged docks in advance. If that's the case, I'm curious what the file "sessionrc" is doing differently than the original sessionrc file.

You will get a much better answer on that sessionrc thang from one of the techie orientated members here. I am smart enough to stay away from anything technical so I don't screw up the whole works.

Been a while since i installed GPS to GIMP.
1) Downloadf and extract the GPS Final.zip to your USERDIRECTORY/.gimp-2.8 folder.
2) Download and extract the extras zip file to your USERDIRECTORY/.gimp-2.8 folder also.
3) Download the sessionsrc file and open it in Notepad ++ or other text editor.
Select and copy all the contents of the file.
Make a backup copy of the current sessionsrc file in the .gimp-2.8 folder and put it somewhere safe like your desktop.
Inside Notepad ++ open the sessionsrc file that is currently inside the .gimp-2.8 folder. Now select all and paste the clipboard contents to the sessionsrc file and edit>save.
This will save the file as an RC file and NOT text.
IMPORTANT - The first two blocks have the monitor res set and you need to change them too your own.
For instance mine look like this


The new sessionsrc file looks like this

So i need to change those res numbers to my own. So the new ones look like this.


Now restart GIMP and it should look like this. Minus my theme of course.
SPLASHSCREEN!

If you don't like the new layout just replace the current sessionsrc file with the backup on your desktop and your back to normal layout again.
Obviously it was intended for larger screen res so i will be changing mine back. Just wanted to show you how to get there.

Thanks for the info Rod and all the time to put that together. Unfortunately, its just not working for me. I don't have notepad++ as I'm on a Mac. So all I do is use the Textedit program. I pasted all the content of the sessionrc download and typed in my resolution 1920x1080 into each field and still nothing.

So for now, I'll assume I messed up the sessionrc file somehow and redownload it and try it again. If that doesn't work, then I'll just learn how to set up the way it was intended to be set up via the sessionrc file.

I don't know textedit but any text editor should do the trick

Of course to edit you have to replace the old resolution value (as in Rod examples) not add more resolution value

Yes it should work with any text editor as long as its the current sessionrc file you paste the GPS sessionrc file content into. Because then the rc file will be in the correct directory already and NOT be a txt file.

I have a feeling you messed up the original rc file when you removed it.Just renaming the rc file by removing the txt extension will not work.That's why it's best to edit the current rc file in place.GIMP already recognizes it as an rc file.

Best to copy the original - place it somewhere safe from overwriting and edit the original with the new stuff. That way you have a backup copy to revert back to.

Okkkkkk, got it to work now. I just downloaded the file again. Opened it in Textedit, edited the resolution thing, copied and pasted into a new, Plain-Text formatted textedit file. Saved. Replaced the current sessionrc in the 2.8 folder and viola, works. Didn't need to paste into the current sessionrc file.
