Update -

Okey well, I didn't change how the game looks, but I did make it more "Polished" I suppose you could say.
I made the ends of the blocks rounded instead of just flat blocks everyplace, the moving blocks also are rounded squares, for the random blocks I made the flowers orange and rounded the edges of the blocks.

Here's the image for the random blocks:
Image

Here's what it looks like now with the rounded ends to the blocks. :3

I also made a new point giver, but this time it's a bonus point! I probably won't have in every new level just sometimes and it'll be very hard to get to but it's one thousand points! When you pick it up it makes a kind of like "ahhhh" choir type sound.

Here's the image for that:
Image

I now have pro version of game maker! A very nice person gave it to me! :D
I can now if I want to make cut scenes and all kinds of things! And I found out I can make a saved game option so I can make this game progress further than I thought I could! :D

Enjoy!

Update-

A Big new update!

1: I made a menu screen by using this video I learned the basics of making a menu! I figured out how to make it start the game though (it was pretty easy that part though lol), and I made it so I can write how to save the game and such, see for yourself!

Image

2: I made a mass amount of new points but I'll probably ease them in so it's not all like HERE HAVE MORE POINTS! lol - I used the rose from my splash screen and recolored the top (not all over again! lol) flower part.

Image = 30 points
Image= 35 points
Image=75 points
Image=150 points

3: I updated the moving blocks, now they have different color flowers, I'm trying to balance the scenes out with color.

Horizontal Mover -Image
Vertical Mover - Image

Okey, that's my abundance of updates visually!

In other news, I FINALLY got my enemies to not stick on the moving blocks and my player doesn't get stuck on the moving blocks either! Yay!!! xD :D

Edit: Those of you who haven't seen it, here's my new splash screen: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=9169

Thank you! And I'm having fun! :3
Been a long time since I actually used my brain. :lol ...Was starting to collect dust. xD

The "fun" part is going to be making music for this game. I can play a keyboard but I'm bad at electric music.
Oh wells, another new skill I gotta learn. xD

Semi Update:
The Menu now makes a click sound when you go over the buttons, and because of this menu I now know how to make menus that allow me to make "rooms" that say what each new "feature" does.

Here's the first one, this shows how player movement works and the first points and enemy. :3

Pretty cool :D I got through all the levels.

It may just be me, but I get a little lag whenever the sounds play. I'm using WINE.

Oh, you too get the lag?
I thought it was just my laptop being slow. Good to know!

Now I feel like a heel, I can't get past one level and you looked through all of mine. :oops: :hoh

Thank you for trying it out/playin' it! :D :D

I'm thinking I'm going to remake the "player" it seems to blend in a bit too much, and I noticed a typo in my start menu.

Do you mean the link to the page/post, or the download link ON the page? I'm not sure what's up with that! It might be on your side. :S Depends on what it is!

Have fun if you manage to get it working for ya! :3

It's very nice so far! Pretty cool! I wouldn't have chosen for WASD controls though, I'd use the arrow keys instead for this type of game. :D

I had it as the arrow keys, but since I have a laptop I had no "close" keys that would apply to ALL keyboards for the diagonal movements.

I might see if people can set what keys they want so everyone is happy! :P

I got a few of the -60s along the way, though :hehe

I miss the arrow key movement. Diagonal is usually done by checking for the user holding two arrow keys simultaneously.

Hmmk, well I can go back to the arrow keys then, but I don't know how to set it for pressing 2 keys at once, I can check around a bit. ;)

What would the technical name for the action of pressing 2 keys at once to make it move diagonally be? lol

Can you assign multiple keys to the same action? Usually both WASD keys and arrow keys are assigned. I'm not sure enough how GameMaker works to give you the technical name. If there's a "plug and play behavior" for movement, you'd just need to find it.

Writing the code for such movement is pretty simple, although if you're just starting with code then you know how challenging "simple" things can be to write.

The Psuedo-code would be something like this

if ( right arrow key is down ) then
{
   move player right
}
if ( up arrow key is down ) then
{
   move player up
}
.
.
.

I'd suspect the code for movement looks something like this

if ( right arrow key is down ) then
{
   move player right
}
else if ( up arrow key is down ) then
{
   move player up
}
.
.
.

The "else" is the only difference between the two examples, but as soon as the right arrow key is down, the up arrow key is never checked.

That actually looks close to GML scripting, I'll have to play around with that when I get time, atm I'm having a Red Alert at home so... :gaah

Video of my rain working
Even in HD it's kinda hard to tell but I hope it'll be reasonably ok to watch, it's not that long...

Pretty cool effect! Although from what I can see, it looks slanted. Shouldn't it be top-down, like our view of the garden? ;)

I'm not sure how to make it look over-head yet, but I think I might have an idea. :P

New Menuuu!

Notice there are some new buttons, and a new background!
If I can ever learn how to make a "settings" button I'd probably have to make another menu AGAIN but oh wells for now!
