I want to create the effect of an animated shine going across the text in my reworked signature button.
I'm not sure which direction the shine should follow, and I've tried doing it without much success.
Here is the image I'm referring to.
Image
I want the effect to be subtle, but also noticeable. I was thinking of having the animated shine going from left to right, or from top to bottom, but I'm not sure if this would be the best orientation for the shine.
Do you think any of you guys out there can help me out?
Below is the attached xcf file. With a text selection saved to channels that can be used to isolate the text in the image, if needed. Also the xcf file only contains one layer for the image you see above.

I have the concept down, it's the execution that's giving me the trouble. Maybe I should just keep at it until I get it the way I want it to be.
a tut would help, but I kind of already know what needs to be done. I'm just having issues making it the way I want it.
Would be nice if you knew where to find this tutorial at.

edit: If you don't have an account there and can't see it, maybe we can get it over this this forum. We are working on getting some over now by Fencepost.

Wallace here is the link for the tutorial Animated Highlights Using "Move Layer" Script-Fu I also have the Fencepost tutorial for doing the same thing using GAP if you want, though it's easier to do using his Move layers script

Oh! This sounds really good, I didn't think to use image highlights for the effect.
I'm sure I can make it the way I wanted it to look now.
Thanks Graechan, thank you to both of you guys! :jumpclap

Hey that's great, thanks for the link. ;)
I'm actually doing it right now as we speak, without using GAP. :seeya

Looks good. Did you have any trouble with the script/tutorial?

Looking good Wallace. :bigthup
I would consider setting the delay between frames to 250-300ms for a more subtle look.

Thanks. I was considering doing just that, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

I changed the frame rate to 225ms, is it to slow now?

I'm not sure what you mean, each letter with a different shine?

Oh, okay I get it.
I did try it that way and I didn't like it as much. I didn't even use the scripts or anything, I did it all manually.
I knew how to do it, but needed help with how it should look.
