Still dark here too up here in Kingston Ont..... There will be no shadows here, I am afraid, There is a blizzard going on right now and it is a howling........

Edit: It is now 2 hrs later. I don't know if anyone has ever heard of this or not but 15 min. ago I saw a flash of lightening and thot I was imagining things, then there was a loud bang and then thunder..... This is happening in the middle of a blizzard (white-out)...... Crazy or what!!!!!

molly, that is called "thunder snow." It's a somewhat rare phenomena. Read more here and here. I've only seen one, myself.

Maybe that's how Frosty got charcoaled eyes?

Oh, and any groundhogs silly enough to come out around here today will have to watch their fur doesn't blow off. We've got a steady 20+ mph (32+ kph) wind, but have had gusts up to 48 mph (77 kph). The "second wave" wrap-around snow just started about 10 minutes ago and visibility dropped to about 1/4 mile (about 400 m).

It's clear here with just a bit of light frost.

Considering I'm warm and cozy indoors, it's actually pretty cool (no pun intended) to look out the window at the blowing snow. We are surrounded by farmland, so plenty of open space that lets the wind really get going. If I look out the south-facing windows I can see "snow devils": mini-cyclones made visible by the loose snow the winds kick up. The house itself is partially screened to the west by a double row of evergreens my father had planted about 20 years ago primarily to act as a windbreak, but I need to extend it farther to the south for more protection. The wind is blowing hard enough that pine needles are being carried more than 75 feet from the trees to the front and back yards.

Woo hoo, snow day today! Our county is under a level 3 snow emergency, so I didn't have to go into work today...extra play time on the computer! Maybe I can even finish my current project. I am working on a picture on the pc because the windows gimp has a couple scripts not on the mac, then I will send the file to the mac and use gmic to finish it up. I will find out it I can send a xcf file from the pc with gimp 2.4 and open it up on the mac with gimp 2.6, and it all the layers are intact and still editable.

Files saved in 2.4 and 2.6 are the same. Also G'MIC works beautifully in Windows too.

Kids have a snow day today here in Michigan. My daughter came down, (she lives just up the road with her bf) to borrow my snow shovel
She hates the cold.

Wife let me sleep in today and made the kids shovel the drive... God i love her!

Yeah the weather's getting pretty bad, now just out here in Rockford, IL where I live, but in Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, and a bunch of other states.

The snow here is 30 inches, and all government buildings are closed, and almost (if not all) stores are closed due to the weather so the kids have no school either, but the kids will make it up as it'll be added as an extra day towards the end of the year.

It caved in my kitchen when I had to open the door, wasn't pretty, but the dogs like the snow.

Well, we have been upgraded to a level 2 emergency, the neighbor has plowed out our driveway, and we never lost power, so all is good here so far! The birds have discovered that we just filled up the feeders, lol.

Have the squirrels and other wildlife been snacking on them too?! .
The older kids are making a ton of money shoveling today...heheh.

I shoveled off my roof before the storm hit so i think i am safe there.Glad i invested in my roof rake now!
All the neighbors are out on top of their roofs today also.

I don't miss that at all.

He can't get out here. We have a layer of ice, then a layer of sleet then a layer of snow and then it repeats. Supposed to be -2 tonight so I don't think he'll be making an appearance anytime soon.

This is the first time in years that both the sleeping Prognosticators didn't see their shadows. Let's hope their predictions come true. We are weathering well here. Hit the mid 45s today, but tomorrow is going to be pretty cold for us (maybe low 40s) and wet. Everything's relative. Don't envy us; we have tornado problems here.

I think the folks in this area ate all the groundhogs, they're quite popular baked with sweet potatoes.

Wanna trade spots, 40 degrees for 10 degrees??? lol


We didn't loose power either (Thank goodness) although a bunch around us did.
Lol it's kind of funny my family doesn't feed the birds, we feed the squirrels, they usually come straight up, and grab the bread, we actually get to pet them sometimes, when bullets aren't flying, and their not running.


I'll stick with Popeye's chicken lol
