If there was one tool you would take out of Gimp what would it be, and why???

I like all Gimps tools, i wouldn't take out any of them.I haven't seen one yet i can't use.

I like them all, but if I had to delete one, it would be the scissor tool. I really don't use it.

The Rectangle/Ellipse/Free/Color/Scissor Select Tools could all be combined into one button being able to switch to thoughs tools (kind of like what ps does), and actually the free select tool, and the color select tool would be one tool as well with select by color being checked in the tools menu.

Also the rotate, flip, shear, scale, and perspective tool could all be combined into one button as well as the some of the other tools like blend, and bucket fill.

As for taking one tool out I would takeout the scissor select tool, foreground select tool, and perspective clone tool, cause idk how to use the last two, and the scissor select tool I never found useful.

I was thinking along the same lines as you, Mike. Also adding the right click context menus to select coordinates, shapes, dimensions, etc. I still have those PS habits when using GIMP, and vice-versa. My only concern is that GIMP is endearing to me, the way it is, if they made it too much like PS, it might lose that GIMP feel, lol. Weird, I know...

That's what the developers are afraid of, making it PS-Gimp and not Gimp anymore.
I personally love the way i can edit scripts to place them where i want them.
That's one thing PS doesn't have that makes Gimp supersede it. That hands on feel you get.
And the fact that Gimp allows users to play with the code...awesome!

They keep those two things, and they can in my opinion change Gimp however they wish and i'll still use it.
Mainly because its just as powerful as PS ,but FREE!
As soon as GEGL non destructive imaging, 16 bit, and printing fixes are fully implemented, Gimp will over-power PS big-time.

True, however idk why, but I still have a hunch that adobe is still trying to find a way to sue Gimp, as you always here about someone sueing someone, especially in the US. Microsoft Sueing Motorola over Android phones, Apple Sueing Motorola over Multitouch Android phones, Apple Sueing Linux Phones, Adobe sues Microsoft for bundling Paint with Windows 7, Adobe Sueing Macromedia Over Flash, and more... (Keep in mind that Adobe bought Flash from Micromedia in 2005)

It's clear to see whether you believe it or not that Adobe wants to remain the top dog when it comes to creative development from video production, producing music, graphic designing, etc: etc: and has sued plenty of people as some of the examples above, yet again whether you believe it or not I personally think their looking for some kind of way to sue Gimp, over photoshop, Inkscape over Illustrator, Kompozer over Dreamweaver, and probably a bunch of others, and are looking for some small hole to get into, and build off that, however it is my opinion, and you can see why I think that, which may also be a reason why the Gimp developers are so careful, for example in 2006 at the Libre Graphics Meeting for Gimpcon 2006, Peter Sikking (the founder of Gimp) stated (You can look here for reference, just look under "GIMP Vision") If someone comes with the request that the UI of GIMP should be like Photoshop, we can simply state: "We are not trying to be like Photoshop, because we have a different product vision." and you can also view this article of why Gimp vs. PS is the stupidest flamewar in history.

I've never been much of a fanboy for any particular software, computer, or electronic device, etc., but if I were going to be a fanboy, GIMP would be it!

Yeah; scissors is hit or miss anyway. I have gml Matting for extractions so don't need scissors (too bad it ain't free anymore; there was nothing to agree to when I downloaded it a few years ago so will continue to use it). The forground extraction is suppose to be based on SIOX I thought, but the results are questionable at best. Unless they make it better, I would remove it too (believe they do plan on making it better from some of the reading that I've done; time will tell). Still looking forward to 2.8, but don't plan on un-installing 2.6 (heck, I still have and occasionally use 1.2.4 since it has some plugins with no compiles for 2.x). That's the beauty of having a large harddrive; can have many programs installed even if you only use them once. lol

On my old laptop I had Gimp 1.2, 2.2, 2.4 and 2.6 so I would maintain compatability.

I tried it on two images - one a circle i filled with black.
I ran the plug-in with a sloppy free select around the circle and clicked ok with default options - the laso tool grabbed the circle quite nicely.
I then decided to try something with hair.
I do not think i ran the filter with the correct settings, it turned out pretty close but not real neat.

Maybe you guys can get better results with it and throw in a tutorial?

I did try this and got lousy results. Believe I'm not using it right, but, I can't find any tuts on how to use it. I removed it from my system. I can wait for a better extraction plugin when 2.8 comes out. In the meantime, I'll stick with gml Matting.

I just bought the GrowCut program, waiting for my reg key now.
Man i can't wait to try it out.

The gimp UI vision has rejected "overloading" buttons in that fashion. Can't find the reference right now.
