Just wondering if anyone has ever installed gimp onto a touchscreen device such as the new windows tablets? If so, is it easier for digital inking and drawing?

I am thinking of getting a tablet computer so i can use it like a syntiq sorta speak.

I don't have any experience with Windows 8 machines, but my touchscreen experience dates back to 2000 until today. You dont need win8 to have and enjoy a touch screen:
- back in the day, mini-laptops had a swivel screen and many of them featured also a touchpad and/or a clitoris-like pointing device (sorry, i don't know it's politically correct name) if you needed precision.

Be sure to get a touchscreen that works well with a stick or toothpick - for precision - since your fingers are usuall too wide for pixel-manipulation, even when zooming-in.

Nearly any pointing device is better than a mouse, not only for Gimp but for almost any drawing task ythat you could acheive with a mouse.

The "trackpoint", originally on IBM Thinkpads. But even IBMers called it "the clit".

I use an old Thinkpad Android tablet. This has a pen with pressure sensitivity (256 levels), it's an Ntec pen that requires a battery. Today I'd rather go for a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet - this uses a Wacom pen (no battery) and has 2048 levels of pressure sensitivity. There is a new 2014 edition of this out, so I'm waiting for the older edition to drop in price.
Unfortunately I'm not aware of a good open-source paint application with pressure sensitivity on Android, so I use the commercial Sketchpad Pro for sketching, then move the sketch into MyPaint/GIMP on the computer for finalizing the image.

I've noticed that none of you is mentioning the Gimp/Inkscape app, personally I find it very fustrating...
Anyway, I was thinking whether it was just me not getting the set-up right or if it really is that hard to work with?
What do you think of it?

I'm running Andriod version 4.1.2 on Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1
I havn't updated lately, cause that's going to remove my PS touch (which was preinstalled), and I'd like a good replacement before I do...
At the moment I don't think Gimp/Inkscape will do, but I was wondering if that's because of the non-update-thing?

The post you replied to was from 2014 , there were no Gimp/Inkscape app then. That said, I haven't tried that app now either, it's a bit too big of a storage hog for me to put in memory on my phone at this point (the tablet I used earlier in the thread no longer works). Currently a use the app "Painter" on Android, which has the best painting features that I've tested. Autodesk Sketchbook is OK too, but Painter is better for painting. Neither is free though (although not expensive).

Horrible to use, It is a virtual ubuntu xfce running in Android. I hope it has improved. No way I can test it, that Asus died a day after the warranty ran out. Not inclined to buy another.

No, it hasn't improved. Tried it last year while stuck in Hospital with broken leg. Would barely install on my Android and was slow and clunky.
