I will build a 32-bit portable version tested tomorrow.

Bang if you download Parthas version of Gimp-2.8.4 win32 bit installer it runs PS and EPS files just fine.

Not sure how to do it in Windows 7.
Google how to add the ghost script path environment variable and value in windows 7.

As Sam has mentioned some versions of Gimp have opening ps and eps extensions/formats already available, like Parthas build.

There are problems with creating a portable version with SourceForge 32-bit compilation :
The boot is too slow because Gimp systematically "questioned" all plugins
I will not publish the 32-bit portable version


Proposed solution (problems with eps ps-files) :
If you use Gimp 2.8.6-32bit SourceForge download archive http://www.aljacom.com/~gmic/libgs-8.zip
(8 973 197 bytes)
Unzip this archive in subdirectory \bin Gimp to replace libgs-8.dll
The problem will be solved.

I had the same problem with Gimp 2.6 and 2.8
The post by lylejk back in Oct 2012 fixed it for me so I made this little note in my software archive against Gimp.


NOTE - GIMP uses Ghostscript in some operations like importing EPS

It is necessary to make a user variable named GS_PROG which points to the Ghostscript.exe file

If the installation is new OR A NEW VERSION OF GHOSTSCRIPT HAS BEEN INSTALLED proceed as follows

To do this Open Control Panel > System > Advanced System Settings > Environment Variables
beside/under the User Variables Box click New to bring up the New User Variable box
in the Variable Name entry box type GS_PROG
in the Variable Value entry box type the full file path and name of the Ghostscript exe file
such as C:\Program Files\gs\bin\gswin64.exe
click OK in the New User Vartiable box to store the data and exit that box

Go and RESTART Gimp and try to import an EPS file
If the program complains click EDIT under/beside the USER variable box and carefully check and edit the entries
again click OK and check Gimp again

Guys I'm running GIMP 2.8.18 and I recently had the same problem and I did all the above.
-installed Ghostscript
-copied the patch(gsdll32.dll) over to the bin folder in gimp. renamed it but that didn't work

The following did for me.
I checked around and found that installing the dll file from a previous version of Gimp does the trick
I still have Ghostscript installed

I downloaded the dll ((gsdll32.dll) file from GIMP 2.8.10 (32 bit)

(ensure gimp is closed)

1st rename the dll file in C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\bin\libgs-8.dll
to libgs-8.dll.backup

2nd copy the downloaded dll (that was downloaded) and paste it in the same folder bin folder.

restart Gimp that should work. re-open the .eps file.
