I am part of a football website. I have made some avatars, using gimp. for me and some of the other people there. I was asked to make a Team logo for a guys team, but the custom images must be 150 pixels by 150 pixels. And the image he gave me is bigger than that. Well i figured that just scaling it down to make it fit would be enough. Well doing that distorts the image to much, it looks really awful. Is their a way to scale down and not lose quality? Below is the image. this is the the image he gave me through a link.

1. Remove the ragged white part.
2. Alpha to selection, Save to Channel & To Path.
3. For both red & yellow part, Select by Color, Save to Channel & To Path.
4. Resize, Path to Selection (for each color), Fill colors.

FYI, My habit I always save Channel & Path in pairs whether I need it or not.

here is what i came up with. i just set canvas size to 150x150 and use the perspective tool to shrink it with. that seem to work better then scaling it down. It did cause to fatten him up a bit , but that's ok. just hope he likes it.

When you scale, only provide one of the dimensions and make sure the chain link next to the height and width is linked not broken. Then you should get a clean miniature version without any distortion because it automatically calculates the other based on the first. So if the original picture is 200x300, and you scale the height to 150, you'll get a width of 100 but it'll be an exact replica.

The only trouble I've had with scaling is when you scale up not down you can get some quality issues.

well i finished it and sent the pic to the guy. He submitted it and now it is being used. . Kinda feels good to finally help others with my gimp knowledge . Here is a sample of what his team page looks like with the logo in place.
