For my latest map project, I need to constantly change the "fade length" of a brush stroke. Having to move from the painting area to the menu bar to adapt the slider every single time is... annoying.

But this action does not appear in the "keyboard shortcuts" list.

Is there any way - internal or via a plugin - that would allow me to bind this action to keys, or even better, to the mousewheel?

It is possible to bind most brush settings (size/angle/aspect ratio/opacity) to the mouse wheel, but I cannot find how to act on the fade length (and coincidentally, it is also not settable by a script/plugin). Note that when your mouse cursor is above the fade length slider, the mouse wheel acts on the slider.

If you tell us what you are doing, we could find ways to do it differently?

That's what I thought after going through the internet. I was just hoping that the real pros might know of a way that I missed.

I noticed that as well. But it doesn't help me in that case... I still need to shift from drawing area to menu bar each time I want to adjust the length.

I'm trying to do some hand-drawn "caterpillar" style mountains. For convenience sake I am still using the mouse, so I have to have a way to draw tapering lines with a certain length. As I am using a rather large scale, the fading simulates a tapering quite well. But I want to use lines of slightly different length, either to just add some small variations or to display the different sloping of the terrain.

In the example here, I simply changed the fade length ever so often. It can be done, but it breaks the workflow. It would be so much more convenient if I could change it without having to move the mouse across the screen.

You should really get a graphic tablet for this, then you could use the pressure for the tapering/opacity.

Otherwise if the edges are a path, there may be ways to script the strokes.
