I've used GIMP to edit photos on my computer for a while now and it has always worked perfectly. But a week or two ago, when I tried to open it, it began to load but then a box popped up that said "GNU Image Manipulation Program has stopped working. Windows will search for a problem and notify you if a solution becomes available." or something like that.

I tried uninstalling and re-installing but the same thing just keeps happening, I don't know what to do. Please help!

I sometimes get this same message using Win 7, but I ignore it and my newly installed Gimp 2.8 open as normal.
Can you close this message, in effect ignoring it, or does the program close on it's own?

No, after the box pops up the only option it gives me is to close out of it. There's no way to ignore it.

Have you installed any recent plugins or scripts?

I don't think so.. What kinds of things could cause problems?

In .gimp-2.8 folder search for gimprc, rename to gimprc.old.
Try Gimp again.

Please note there are 2 gimprc files, don't rename this one.

I found the .gimp-2.8 folder, but I couldn't find the gimprc file. There are several other files with 'rc' at the end, though. I tried renaming 'creatorrc' to what you had, but it didn't work.

Any advice?
