Ack, I can't find tutorials via search for putting text to path the way I want it. I have an oval graphic and I want half the text over the top and half under the bottom…but all the tutorials show circles and when I try it with using an oval, it ends up curved wrong. I know there are instructions here but can't find them!!!

yes! but I can't seem to get mine twisted. Since it is an oval, I did two separate paths, but they are not perfectly centered/twisted…and although I can twist the paths, I can't twist the new layers with the bucket fill text. Argh.

the twist tool just won't work on it, so I cheated and messed around with the perspective tool and got it almost perfect.

Is there an easy way to do text along an ellipse?

Obviously, you can not rotate the text path.

This by making an elliptical path duplicating for top and bottom and then splitting the duplictes as required.



I know that Ofnuts text along path plugin has more control over positioning, but then you lose some of the nice features of the 2.8 text tool.

Here is what I managed…but it would be great to have a tutorial for the ellipse and other paths. I though it would be easy to rotate the thing, but I think I should have rotated the path before I filled it in with the text. I was not sure how long to make the paths…therefore they were not perfectly centered, and that is why I cheated with perspective. Still not perfect, but it was good enough.

You may want to have a look at "reverse-strokes" at the same place to reverse the bottom ellipse arc.

TY, Molly, but you can see that the bottom arc is a bit off. Not a big deal as these were merely to tape on hotel doors for a Chorus trip…btw, a Canadian chorus from Hamilton, ON. But it got me thinking that I really should take the time to learn and practice this so it will stick in my mind. I can never find anything with the search, probably because I never know what to ask!
OfNuts, since I use McGimp, I have not figured out how to add py scripts. But your explanations are helpful background information!

Don't you have the same user folders in Mac, Where do you put your scm (script) folders. They go in your script folders. You put your py in plug-ins.

In the search, just use the Google custom search and type in text to arc or text to circle, it will come up with a page or so of different ones to look at.

when I first used Gimp for Mac, then yes, I was able to add plug-ins, but McGimp is different. I can put any plug in into the plug in folder, but they never show up in the menus. Partha builds in the most useful ones, so I do have quite a few of them, but I do not know how to go about adding new. But then, I haven't tried in a long time, maybe it will work now! As for scripts and all other goodies, yes, they go into the same folders as in any other gimp, and they show up fine…well, most do anyway. And I did find some instructions using google, but googling takes so much time and I had to get it done really quickly, so I only had the chance to look at a couple of instructions. At least I did find out enough to be able to whip up something, but still need to practice. You never know when you will need to do a job that is perfect!
OfNuts, the sidebar asks to let you know if you know how to add with Macs, lol, or something to that effect.

*edit. Molly, maybe I have been using the wrong plug in folder or maybe I don't have the path to the one I am using in the preferences…I will have to check it out.

2-ton, Since I am not a mac person I can't help, but why don't you ask Partha, he will probably know.

When I have time to work on it, I probably should do just that.
