I recently had the occasion to hop into the seat of a WWII warbird (under restoration). Instead of taking of selfie of myself playing pilot, I took a quick shot of the dashboard. The picture was too crisp to be used as a background as is (a background shouldn't be distracting) so I tried to reduce the contrast and give it a bit of a grunge effect.

The original:

I'm now flying my PC :)

Nice effect, it looks like an old image now.
Speaking of flying, have you seen the online game "World of Warplanes"?
Here's the "World of Warplanes - E3 2014 Trailer"...

Nice retro look ofnuts. :bigthup

How about blending the background colors on the new one?
Image

1. Colors | Info | Border Average
2. New Layer, Foreground color (from border average)
3. Multiply, Opacity 50%
Burn or Hard Light might work and a vignette.

Yes, but so far nothing beats IL2 and its sequels (Pacific Fighters, 1946, etc...).

The end result looks a lot like Levels with the output max set to 154. A bit too dark for me.

I checked it out, and do believe you're right. It's a very complex game, every key on the keyboard does something and then some.

It's mostly that the simulation of the flight characteristics of each plane is very good. Being in a P39 or a F4U is very different. You don't crash the same way, nor for the same reasons:)

In my wildest fantasies, I change the dials to actually display things (CPU temp, network... :)
