Not bad at all
@ Molly, they have had more years to perfect it. Pyrotechnics originated in China. in the 7th century.

[The earliest documentation of fireworks dates back to 7th century China, where they were invented. The fireworks were used to accompany many festivities. It is a part of the culture of China and had its origin there; eventually it spread to other cultures and societies. wikipedia.com]

@sallyanne, they should share it with us because ours are getting pretty boring. Same thing every year. It is amazing how they can design something like that.

They are so clever in figuring out how to make these displays.

Cool, but looks fake to me, especially when they leave the ground. Plus, given the distance away, the light should show before the sound, not at the same time. Maybe I'm wrong...

I bought the software. It is fun to play with for sure. My first creation. Nothing spectacular but i am picking it up quickly as it is very similar to using Flash software. Utilizing frames, timelines and such. :)

Thanks Warrior. I will work on something a little more spectacular. It seems you can write letters also. :)
The Pro version is 356 USD. I bought the game version for 30 USD. Still lots of stuff to play with in the game version though. Camera positions, and movement is included. You can also change the fireworks color, angle of ignition and size. Thanks for the link to the software. I also thank you Lyle for the cool Youtube video.

Cool concept but I did think it looked artificial even before reading that it was. :)

- There was something with the blue that felt off.
- The bright spots of each explosion tended to flicker out all at once, since these are individually packed pieces of gunpowder, such exact control seems unlikely.
- The launch trails and launch flares are nowhere as bright as shown here.
- I don't know if it's physically possible to make (maybe multiple) explosions combine to look like a heart, but the result would not look as perfect as here.
- But most importantly, it's shot against the full counter-light of a full moon; I would think most of the fireworks would be quite hard to see on film in that light.

Fun program and cool link though lylejk, made one think!

The Pro version is actually for pyrotechnics and firework technicians. :)
So i am assuming much of this is possible for real. I bet it would be very costly however.

I am fascinated by fireworks. I really admire your work Rod. I prefer the virtual fireworks because for years I attended an analysis of accidents at a fireworks factory in Brazil and since then, I never could enjoy the real fireworks. 240 workers died. I tried to rescue people and when I pulled one arm it came off the body despite the person is still alive. Was the most difficult day of my professional life.
Years later, I still have nausea and I cry when I remember the moans and the smell of burning flesh.
