8bf sequentially ?

8bf sequentially ?
Is it possible ?
My thoughts are still with .8 bf
I would love to exploit their potential sequentially.
Does anyone know of a way how to call (from a plugin or script) pspi filter?
Any idea can be important to me!

The easiest and most successful so far has been Robs Shellout python script.
Gimp has gotten to the point of development that the PSPI plug-in needs to be updated.
A lot of filters still initialize but many of the better ones no longer run with it.

Still kudos to Rob A for that wonderful breakthrough in 8bf incorporation.
1) it allows to remove plug-ins that will be loaded at start, making load time faster for gimp.
2) its not only great for 8bf's but many other programs and filters.

Photoshop may run sequentially 8bf ?
may be wriiten actions that include not interative use of 8bf ?
I'm not sure is long time i don't use PS..

I know you asked for gimp but if PS can't do it, no any hope that gimp may do, because gimp has not as PS a macrorecorder to record sequences and has much less compatibility with 8bf

Writing , and recording 8bf's automatically would be pretty cool, but i have so many now i do not think i need anymore :lol

Aren't 8bf's compiled?

you may create sequential filters with FilterForge, http://www.filterforge.com/ but they will require Filter Forge to run(and basically filter Forge run well only with PS, or as standalone )

you may also create sequential filters graphically , without have to code with Mathmap using its Composer

I know you asked how to run sequences of filters more then assemble sequential filters but that is the closest i may imagine

MareroQ if you do decide to grab Filter Forge get the Standard Edition so you can edit and create filters.The basic edition doesn't let you.It's a little more money but worth it if you want to build filters.

I have not tried Math Maps composer yet. I may have to try it sometime soon.
Can you save the filters created with it?

in case the extension to use is mmc instead then mm

would be wonderful have in MM the same flexibility of GMIC for input/output, the composer is cool but MM allow to apply filter only to the active layer.

100% in agreement with you on that. More then a few years ago I requested this feature but had no takers until Rob did it. As I recall, I wanted it for Irfanview, but XNView does a better job at transparent layers. I've kept PSPI only for two 8bfs (GML Matting for extractions, and Impressionist since it won't recognize in XNView). I didn't notice too much of a speedup since I have a lot of brushes. lol

Get and install GURM and your Gimp will fly open in seconds Lyle!

I couldn't get impressionist to work in Gimp, but Photo Filter Factory runs anything :lol

Since 8bf i pspi and recorded in the Procedure-Browser and Plugn-Browser
My problem is how to invoke them (how to write a command - for example a) using python plugin or script-fu

Had to build a gui (with a list of commands to choose from), a dialog box - which in the step and the ability to write (read) to the terminal settings file (robANT ?!!)
it would be something similar to the ATN (in Photoshop).

i fear will not work because most (if not all) 8bf can't remember the last setting used,and i doubt they could be called in a not iterative mode

But maybe the Gimp Userfilter (aka FF converter) that may run all the F.F filters could be hacked to do it,
(because can also convert the FF script in another language, maybe that language is more flexible and that may allow sequential call...a big maybe but i believe is the only hope

the fact that even Xnview that has a quite advanced batch mode cannot call in batch mode or sequentially 8bf filters lead me to think that will be impossible also for gimp.

It is long time that i did not use the Userfilter , and anyway is not compatible with the most recent plugin but only with the old filter factory ,...on the other hand several of the best modern PS plugin are available also as standalone program so i suppose they may be called (not the 8bf but the standalone version )by variant of the RobA Xnview shell script

Photoshop retains the last settings a a PS filter while in the same session, but no other program that I know of that uses PS filters do.

Try just Gimp scripts for now.
Can you add python filters to the list?
