This project has insane amount of support.
yesterday i checked they had just a little over 2 hundred thousand backing fund.
and today it's over 1 million.
so like 1 whole million in one day.
It's sick if you refresh the page you'll see the amount changes in real time.
and it still has 50 days left.
they only needed $50,000 so it's already more than 20 times the amount of their goal.

I'm beginning to think this whole crowd sourcing kick has gone off the rails. All I can figure is that lots of people must be doing really well, since they seem have money to burn.

Check out this one. It started as with a $10 goal.

Potato Salad

$180 doesn't appear unreasonable considering all that this cooler offers. I just am at a stage in my life where I don't go on excursions anymore so this one's not for me, but still cool technology indeed Tran. Amazing how much money this kickstarter campaign's already made and it's no where near at it's end either. :)

Someone should just do a kickstart project with something simple like $10 to write a GIMP tutorial on something simple and see how much they can make from it. seriously, this potato salad thing is crazy.
At least with a GIMP tutorial people can have access to it all.
With the potato salad, i don't know how they can keep the promise of giving a bite to someone who's backed it with $2 or $3 dollars? what? mail a piece of potato salad over the snail mail?
Conbagui should totally start one and see how much backing people give it (just for fun).

Stop giving my ideas Tran; you might make a few others mad that I no longer will do tuts for free (though now seldom do anyway, but, if money's involved, hmmmmm; lololol). :)

lylejk,
you know you want to?
there's nothing to lose. except a little time. seriously look at the potato salad one, it's ridiculously insane! 45 thousand dollars?
As long as you actually have a cool tutorial by the end.
If anything, it would be a good experiment to see and along the way you might end up promoting GIMPChat for free as well. it's definitely a win.
I don't think you can use an existing tutorial since it has to be a project/goal that is to be completed if backed by backers.

kickstarter only accepts/transfer payment details through amazon payments that are in the United States.
I am from Canada, so even if i wanted to start a silly project with a goal of $5, I can't.
Edit: never mind i found the kickstart for Canada.

So i just had to try to create a project to test the water.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/trandoductin/finish-every-level-in-super-mario-world-record-it
It got accepted, and i launched it. now i just wait and see if there are any backers hehe
My project is so awesome it has the double bump map script used on the text that says "Let's make videos, Yoshi!" :hehe
Image

The coolest cooler is now near 5 MILLION dollars (about 100 times their original goal). So SICK!

Good news, yesterday i received an email from kickstarter advertising their boosting service that starts at $5 USD. So I had $5.77 in my paypal account and i thought i'd give it a shot so I paid them $5.00USD. And they kept their promise of using $1 (CAD) to back up my project and post links to twitter/facebook and other google+. A bit later, some one backed my project up with $1 CAD. And today someone backed it up with $5 CAD so now I am up to $7 CAD which is past my goal. Looks like i have to play Super Mario World and record videos of game play after all. :)

my favorite new emails are from kickstarter (now up to $9.50 CAD)

Not sure! I guess it's based on a trust system. I am sure if you didn't fulfill the backer's expectations then kickstarter might pursue you legally.

Edit: I found this article. http://kotaku.com/5921739/kickstarter-doesnt-really-care-if-you-get-scammed-out-of-25 I guess it comes down to risk taking and how much you trust the project creator.

You can start a kickstarter to raise the money to hire a lawyer.

Sadly, I have had to ask kickstarter to cancel my "Super Mario World" project altogether and not transfer any funds from my backers' accounts to mine. Because someone on youtube told me that using an emulator is illegal.
